Vietnamese is like this where they eat every part of everything. My favorite is Pho Dac Biet which has "rare steak", tendons and tripe (stomach lining) in it. Great flavor, just don't think about what you're eatingAutomatik;1332608 wrote:I went for a going away party, my friend (white guy) moved to China with his g/f (Chinese chick)
It was family style.
Some of the dishes that were brought out.
Jellyfish, cut like noodles
A whole duck, head and all
Fish stomach soup
Duck tongue
deep fried minnows, looked like french fries with eyeballs
It was probably the weirdest meal I've had in my life. I wouldn't say it was terrible, but I don't think I'd go back. -

I believe the soup I mentioned was called tripe?Mohican00;1332761 wrote:Vietnamese is like this where they eat every part of everything. My favorite is Pho Dac Biet which has "rare steak", tendons and tripe (stomach lining) in it. Great flavor, just don't think about what you're eating
I was amazed at actually how the Chinese patrons were eating. Chop sticks in one hand, a small bowl in the other. They were just shoveling food, talking loud, chug beer, repeat. The small bowl was more like a utensil. I was in awe. -
I Wear PantsDo you enjoy Thai tea belly? (It's that delicious orange stuff at Thai restaurants)

In Nan I worked with an ARVN unit. We when throw a village and the ARVN picked up some chickens. Before night fall they prepare the chicken .. Every part if the chicken was cooked, in a helmet of boiling water/blood, lots of sugar and magical rice. I have no idea where the spices and vegetables came from but I was hungry … it was good. Vietnamese is good but I still prefer Thai… I like the spices and peanut … combo better.Mohican00;1332761 wrote:Vietnamese is like this where they eat every part of everything. It's actually suppossed to be Ceylon tea instead of black tea but places use black tea because it's much cheaper. -

ManO'WarI love Thai food...my old gf was from Thailand. She made some really good dishes.

I second Big Star. I usually go for booze, but the tacos are nice. It's a must see in the Spring and Summer months. Just get there early or prepare to wait. Cash only.Belly35;1332661 wrote:Big an Little or Big Star .... Fish taco, other suggestions ?
Next trip to Chicago we will be going out for Fish Taco ...
I don't really venture too far into ethnic foods. Had Indian one time and I didn't like it. I do enjoy ethnic staples though: Gyros, schwarma's, Chinese (not the traditional stuff...the normal takeout variety), dim sum, Thai, and some cajun. Used to date a girl from Trinidad who would literally put curry on everything. Never liked the taste of curry though.
