Belly Traditions: Do you or your Family have any?

One tradition we have is we go around the table and mention one thing we are very thankful for and why?

One other tradition is the final decorating of the Christmas trees with the special ornament that each individual took off the Christmas tree last Christmas is now put back on this year Christmas tree.

I was waiting for this thread from you.

I'm not sure what will be on the menu this year. I'm not cooking and driving up on Thursday, getting there just in time to sit down. (Wish I would be leaving promptly after that to avoid dishes). No alcohol for me either this year, which I'm not pleased with. I'll just have to get so drunk tonight that I wont want to drink tomorrow.

Eat as quickly as possible barely tasting the food dash to the couch nap until its time to go.

Only real tradition we have is that we all end up at our parents house to put up the tree. With all the families and in laws in such the traditional Turkey day meal at a relatives is hit or miss with everyhone, but then we all end up at mom and dads to put up the tree.

Probably head up to the in laws for thanksgiving lunch. Will be the same song and dance, wife will say "oh, I thought you were goin to your side's thanksgiving today....by yourself', then drive to her parents, listen to them bitch about Obama being president, hating blacks and gays, and how the world is crashing, and pretty much everyone but her parents playing on their phones/electronic devices. Really, really not looking forward to tomorrow. Only solace will be reading the paper after we eat and then thankfully there are games on network tv as her parents only have an antannae and like 5 channels.

but on better note....back in the day grandma always made this amazing ham loaf and some cheesey potatoes casserole that was amazing!

For a few yaers I worked at a local place that had free Thanksgiving dinners in a Giving THanks program. That was pretty fun, and humbling, but the wife thinks that was too selfish to do that and not sit around with her family!

    Good God I love Thanksgiving.

My wife will cook for about 14....all the traditional yummies.

We usually have 30-35 people come by my parents' house. My mother doesn't cook the entire meal herself; people bring their own dishes. All the traditional Thanksgiving food, plus dessert. I Haven't been back home for Thanksgiving in probably three years so I'm looking forward to going home this year.

My cousins still go behind the house in the wood and smoke a joint...

    Mashed Potatoes</SPAN>
    Dressing Dry</SPAN>
    Gravy</SPAN>
    White Wine</SPAN>

I wonder how my mother would feel about me ditching her for Thanksgiving to hang out with your cousins.

...Thanksgiving Day is about the same as most of the posts above. Eat around noon the traditoinal meal, watch some football, eat a 2nd time later that evening and then watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Don't tell her, or lie about it. I gotta feeling it's worked well for many years. :)

Seriously though, This has gone on for 30 + years. I almost went back there with my brother last year.I am sorry I didn't now.

Our tradition is to have Thanksgiving on Friday instead of Thursday.

Sames. My silbings and I all have two sets of parents plus significant others, so it just makes it easier. I normally have a dinner to go to on Thursday as well but not this year. I am actually pretty excited by that. I am going to help my mom cook and then relax and watch football.

We have a normal Thanksgiving meal with a ton of appetizers.

    Cheese and meat tray
    Veggie tray
    Fruit platter
    Shrimp and cocktail sauce
    Deviled eggs
    Cream cheese roll ups
    Spicy sausage dip
    Chips
    Crackers

Turkey (one deep fried and one roasted)
    Stuffing
    Mashed potatoes
    Green bean casserole
    Sweet potato casserole
    Green beans
    Corn (niblet and creamed)
    Cranberry sauce
    Salad
    Fresh rolls
    Pecan pie
    Pumpkin pie
    Chocolate creme pie
    Pumpkin roll
    Jello with fruit

    And now I am hungry.

Yeah, my wife's family are all up here in Massillon, while mine is in Logan. My family understands that the two families are two and a half hours apart and are willing to work around things, where as her family, not so much. So we just spend Thanksgiving day up here, and then get up early Friday morning and head down home for the weekend. In return, this year, we will spend all of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day down in Logan, and then are coming back up here the day after Christmas, which I'm pretty excited about.

I actually eat about 1/3 of that (and none of the desserts). Pretty picky eater.

I have a tradition where I attend family dinners and try to be as invisible as possible.

Your own family or do you enter random houses and attend those dinners?

Depends on what medication I'm taking and what the voices tell me to do

Since I can remember, 40 years worth have been at my maternal Grandmothers house for Thanksgiving. I have 6 aunts, all but 1 still live within a reasonable driving distance and all come back for dinner. The women cook, the men wait, watch football, eat, then lounge around while the women clean up. Good times! lol The only problem has been the last 10 years, wife insists we go to her families get together first, we go to my mothers for Christmas Eve, tradeoff. Her family is too modern for me, they expect the men to help! lol

Do this, first year without mine and it's quite different. It was nice but not nearly as much of the family came back so it was much smaller and the venue changed.
