There will be both Twinkies and Cupcakes. The liquidation process will be inclusive of selling the rights of those two brands to another company.said_aouita;1321328 wrote:No more Twinkie's and Cup Cakes because of a Union.

ernest_t_bassDespicable. I'm in a union, and I hate it. Don't get me wrong, I like the protection that the union brings (lawyers, etc.) but pretty much loath everything else.

Please don't bring facts into this thread. We are making fun of unions, Obama and fat people.Con_Alma;1321353 wrote:There will be both Twinkies and Cupcakes. The liquidation process will be inclusive of selling the rights of those two brands to another company. -

No doubt the brands will be bought out of bankruptcy, not sure by who, but it could be a really good steal for somebody. Probably not so much for the current owners...or workers.Con_Alma;1321353 wrote:There will be both Twinkies and Cupcakes. You don't have to apologize. In Ohio you have to join the union to get a teaching job....and deal with the NEA and the OEA and pay dues that do nothing but pay the union muckety mucks and a certain political party. My father did it for 40 years and hated everything about the union. When he had real problems (with students/parents, fortunately few) the union didn't help him at all, but they did recommend Dukakis in '88 and have an opinion about abortion in Africa. The NEA is a joke.ernest_t_bass;1321356 wrote:Despicable. I'm in a union, and I hate it. This. My mom is a teacher so I'm always interested to read the NEA pamphlets that they send to her. Talk about pure propaganda; it might as well be The Communist Manifesto.Manhattan Buckeye;1321402 wrote:You don't have to apologize. sleeperCount me in as someone who's glad Hostess is going out of business BECAUSE of unions. Good, less union members to deal with.

simply not true..but it sounds good in the press they have been wanting to cut up and sell this company for years. it has changed hands several times, it was going out of business either way. just a good way to cash out ceo's and investors and blame the union.sleeper;1321423 wrote:Count me in as someone who's glad Hostess is going out of business BECAUSE of unions. And rightfully so. I don't really care about the details but anytime unions get bad press and union members lose their jobs, I get excited.Gblock;1321427 wrote:simply not true..but it sounds good in the press they have been wanting to cut up and sell this company for years. it has changed hands several times, it was going out of business either way. just a good way to cash out ceo's and investors and blame the union. -

I don't think it's a good thing when people lose their jobs...whether they are union employees or not. In a time when we should be worried about putting people back to work, it's never a good thing when another 18,000 are looking for a job.sleeper;1321431 wrote:And rightfully so. Gblock is right. This was happening sooner or later. This is the second bankruptcy, and it was just a matter of time. I'm going to miss Wonder Bread. -

Well, at least now that I've found this thread, that will be a focus. -

Normally yes. But when you deal with unions and the ignorance of their base it's good when things don't go their way. Fall in or GTFO. I'm betting these 18,000 voted for Obama and are now wondering why they aren't being bailed out.sherm03;1321448 wrote:I don't think it's a good thing when people lose their jobs...whether they are union employees or not. The bankruptcy court ordered the bakers unions to take certain concessions. With those in place the business would have continued. Because the union said no and is striking they decided to liquidate and close down. -

The rising cost of production also contributed heavily to this. The first time they went into bankruptcy, they cited the rising cost of ingredients. That cost has only gone up. But at the end of the day, you can only raise the price so much before you hit a ceiling and you just aren't profitable anymore. At the end of the day, the people buying these products were doing so to put in their kid's lunch box. And people are only going to pay so much before they start resorting to buying the off-brand products that are nearly identical.Gblock;1321465 wrote:they are going out of business because people dont eat twinkies or ho hos anymore. for what ever reason. bad marketing, healthier living etc... i havent had either in 10 years and i havent seen anyone i know eat any either. and i eat plenty of junk food. i dont even see them in the stores anymore. when i was a kid they were always front and center near the checkout making you want to buy them...
