While I agree that a good living and a good family life are not mutually exclusive, I'm not sure why you think picking the child up at school is so preferable....
I appreciate your honesty with regards to expressing that you aren't sure why I have such a preference. Being present is always preferable to me if I am in a situation that has been described as as a safety issue, and my children are involved.

...I did my best to explain it was a safety issue, if the kid knows where the ammunition is, chances are he knows where the gun is....

...I know I have to report it. ... I went to elementary school with a kid who got in his dad's gun safe and accidentally shot himself dead. So that makes me more nervous about it.

In addition, Snot clearly explained the desire or intent to speak to school officials and was unable to because they had already left. Being present would have afforded him the ability to have more control which is sometimes nothing more than being there and eliminating uncertainty about anything in your own mind.

    That's all. Just a preference.

I don't have any expectation that such a move would be readily available. At 6 years old to think that being present would be my preference in 5 or even 10 years isn't taking into consideration that preparing for any other challenges in child rearing would be part of my effort to solve the concern. IN addition, I didn't suggest it should Snot that find a different job. Nor did I suggest it be is wife. Either one would be fine and having 2 people looking for a favorable work schedule may just increase the potential that one is able to find it.
