Girl Meets World

Boy Meets World had some pretty heavy plots at times, and Disney won't do that, unless that put it on one of their channels other than Disney.

Disagree. Not only did Friedle do Boy Meets World, but he also starred in Kid Gets Acquainted With Universe.

Two key factors drove the success of this show. The first being chemistry among the cast. Krambman nailed it. While some might have rejected it as just a silly teen sitcom, Boy Meets World was one of those rare TV shows where you actually believed in the world that the characters created. That's partly because of convincing acting and partly because the show was much more than just a "kid" sitcom. It delved into real-world themes, sometimes extremely serious ones, such as teen sex, divorce and death. That's what separated Boy Meets World from a show like Sabrina the Teenage Witch. (That and Sabrina was a sorceress with magic powers and a talking cat.)

The other factor -- and the reason why I loved Boy Meets World so much -- was the show's willingness to completely break with the rational and make fun of itself. See Kid Gets Acquainted With Universe. This is what made Dawson's Creek, albeit in a different sort of way, so great as well.

One of my favorite shows growing up. And I always liked Topanga. How could you not?

I agree with that as well. The little jabs that they made at themselves were always good for a laugh. The fact that Mr. Feeny was their teacher in elementary school, their principal in high school, and their professor in college and that there were numerous cracks made about that was really funny. It was the little things in the show...like when they just decided not to have the little sister for a few seasons, and then she reappeared like nothing happened with the line "that was the longest time out of my life."

I also think what made this show great was that the core cast never changed. They added people, and dropped people. But never had to replace a main character with a different actor/actress. One of my biggest pet peeves was when Fresh Prince of Bel Air changed the actress that played Aunt Viv and we were supposed to just pretend it was the same lady. The fact that the core cast stayed together that long made that show great.

Favorite show of all time. Hope the remake does it justice.

Mr. Feeny: I regard all my students equally.
Shawn: Oh, you know we're your favorites.
Cory: Come on Feeny. You haven't even talked to another student for seven years.

Either Morgan Matthews skinned another kid somewhere in the middle of the series and wore that child's carcass as a costume for the remainder of the show's run -- though that seems like a pretty dark storyline I would have remembered -- or there were two actors who played Morgan. :D I agree with you, though, while Morgan was just a pretty minor character in Boy Meets World, replacing Will's aunt Viv in Fresh Prince was just unforgivable.

I always LOL'd at how much different Topanga's dad's were...She had 3 different dads (I think), all of which looked totally different.

Ah shit...totally forgot about Jedidiah changing. It started off with the dude from the Monkees. Then it switched to the guy who played Milos in the Seinfeld episode with the shitty tennis player.

Harley Keiner was another minor character that changed for a brief time.

And you're right about Morgan reclegend. But again, that's another minor character.

But the core cast never changed...and I think that is important to a show being extremely successful.

Good call. I'm with sherm, how the **** did I forget that. Lol. Topanga's dad was like a f------ chameleon. I think he was even an Indian at one point.

Damn...there was a third Jedediah. Michael McKean from all those mockumentaries like "A Mighty Wind" and "This is Spinal Tap" was Jedediah for a short time.

Watched the pilot last night (they made it available in the app or something and now it is streaming online).

It was what I expected...A show geared towards kids but bearable for adults to watch to see the old BMW cast.

I'll keep watching just for the nostalgia. Also, there wasn't enough Topanga in the first episode.

I watched the trailer a few weeks ago and it looked miserable. I have a feeling the BMW fanclub will tune in and get quickly bored because there wont be enough Cory/Topanga to distract you from the otherwise poisonous plots.

    Nostalgia bump.

    Anyone watching GMW?

My wife and I watched them all randomly...Mostly screwing around on our tablets with GMW on in the background.

Season 2 looks pretty sweet, though...Eric, Mr. Turner, Feeny, Angela, Chet Hunter (ghost) all confirmed. Apparently season 1 was introducing the new cast, now going forward it's a mesh of BMW and GMW cast...I hope it keeps up and moves to ABC or ABC family or something and lasts for several years.

I didnt, because Disney went all Disney with it.

Would give it a try on ABC/Family.

I saw the news about mr turner a few days ago and hit up youtube to see the clips with shawn and minkus from s1

My kid likes it so we've watched every episode. Excited about the season 2 changes.

You gotta real in the kids, though. Why the hell would kids want to watch a nostalgic show for adults.

Side story - my girls have been watching Saved By the Bell lately. Awesome!

Celebrity Deathmatch is coming back. I know that doesn't fit here, but it didn't seem worthy of its own thread.

They wouldnt have to make it nostalgic. Im just talking about producing it in the same way, as opposed to like Hannah Montana (or insert any other Disney show). But, its on Disney so I didnt expect it any other way.

Just saying if ABC Family or ABC had it, you could produce and direct it in a more adult fashion, like BMW was.
