I love the part where you have to pay $35 to even attempt to prove innocence.

I don't download as much as I used to, but I still like grabbing an obscure album I wouldn't otherwise buy.

    The pirates will always win.

So is this going to be the end of free wifi hotspots?

I use spotify for music and don't download movies, but if I wanted to why wouldn't I just sit in a Wendy's for an hour?

    scare tactics.

i'd be impressed if any of them actually did anything about it. TWC has already come out and said that it's a waste of resources for them to run down potential pirates for the MPAA/RIAA.

piracy will just continue to evolve. cut off the head of one, 10 more appear in its place.

Downloading isn't so much the problem -- they really are just after the sharers.

Spotify is free, just use that.

This is why I donate to the EFF.

Not that I disagree with you but:
The media industry will largely be "footing the bill" for the piracy policing. Their efforts rely on a company called MarkMonitor, which trolls BitTorrent networks, collecting IP addresses. MarkMonitor recently became a subsidiary of Thomson Reuters Corp.

If the media industry truly is footing the bill, I could see the ISP's jumping on board.

    I got a warning already :(

I think Spotify lets you cache songs offline for like $5 a month.

Kim Dotcom is going to launch his new site Megabox and there are also rumors he's relaunching MegaUpload.

Really? It's been 20+ years since they've finished over .500.

    Frack.

Only problem with that is, to my understanding, as you are downloading you are sharing what you have already downloaded. Even though you stop it as soon as it's completed, you have already shared information throughout the download process.

What site did you download from? You can PM me if you want, I'm just curious in case I use the same site.

private trackers are no safer than public trackers
  • TedSheckler
Yes they are. No tracker (public or private) is 100% safe, but they are definitely safer than public trackers.

No, they aren't. It's a facade that they are "safer".
