Red Bull Stratos 23 mile jump

    Hit the ground runnin'

That capsule looks like it's coming in pretty hot

I'd love to go up and down in a capsule, but to free fall is pure insanity

When Kittinger did it, they measured zero gravity with a string on a golf ball and watched when the string looked flat across. Science 50 years later is a little different.

    Press conference is starting.

Hot air balloon went twenty three miles up, dude jumped out, free fall for over four minutes breaking the speed of sound, did some flips and twists and a little flat spin, pulled the parachute, landed on his feet.

The Chinese judge only gave him a 7.5

He's getting laid tonight for sure.

That is just about the coolest thing to break the speed of sound on a skydive. That's /game in any contest of one-upsmanship.

Although I'm curious to hear why he didn't break the free-fall record despite being almost 30% higher. Even factoring in increased speed it seems like he should have broken the free-fall record, unless that person was trying to actively set it by maximizing wind resistance.

He didn't break the sound barrier, btw.

    Too much flipping and shit.

    It's being reported he did

That had to be the longest 2.5 hours in his life while he was ascending. I don't think I could stomach the nerves for that long. Nevermind the jump ahead of you, if the balloon malfunctions before it's time you're basically in a coffin.

They had a plan to abort and he could have stayed in the capsule. It would have been a hard landing. They discussed almost aborting in the press conf. because of the face shield.

  • justincredible
Ahhh, I did not know that. I was watching it live and they didn't seem to think he hit it.

Yeah, duh, of course the pod had a chute. But it would have been more dramatic without one!

I loved his last words before jumping.

    "I'm going home now."

Remember when you were little and it was an adrenaline rush jumping down the last three stairs? Or felt like a badass when you jumped off the swing while it was moving? That had to be an incredible rush as he stepped off the pod.

Yeah, duh, so he wasn't in a coffin. They said it would've been a helluva hard landing if he stayed in the capsule.

Haha, I meant the "duh" for me. I knew it was written sloppily, hoped you wouldn't take offense
