Blowout?

Sometimes teams are just inexperienced or lacking talent/athleticism/coaching or a combination of those things and when that type of team gets matched up against an above average or better team you get some pretty lopsided scores. Happens in every sport.

Edit: Can't tell but are you implying that soccer defense is easy?

What hs did you go to? Sounds like you had a shitty schedule.

There are major problems with a lot of schools and their athletics.

Heck, there is more emphasis on football at EVERY level that it is played. How many times do we see blowouts there? Those teams get WAY more money and WAY more publicity...and they lose big. Soccer is not popular in southern Ohio -- south central all the way over to southeastern. There are some REALLY poor teams.

Add the lack of soccer culture to the lack of quality coaching, quality talent, and probably passion/desire/etc. and it's rather easy to lose big. Who knows the numbers too? If the pool is that small, then it's going to be that much harder to compete with teams. These blowouts happen in every sport and at all places across the state (and country).

Another surprising part is that Peebles is $200 pay to participate per kid per sport. Several of their very competitive programs are now at the bottom.

Honestly, how about the losing team accept that the winning team is that much better, grow a set, and not get butthurt and QQ about losing by so much.

Whether you win by 1 or 100, you win. Whether or not you lose by 1 or 100, you lose. Stop caring so much about by how much you win or lose.

If you're winning, don't TRY to score any faster than you normally would, but don't stop trying to score. If you're losing, try to stop them and score as much as possible, but quit crying that someone might hurt your self esteem.

    This.

Also, I am sure the coach put in his 2nd string guys. Those guys have been working hard all year. As a coach, I wouldn't be able to tell them to take it easy.

When in this country did it become such an issue to blow teams out? I feel like this wasn't even close to an issue 30-40+ years ago, but I wouldn't know.

Ironman, thanks for throwing our program under the bus! lol Where to begin with Piketon soccer? 1. History, soccer was formed in 2001 when the new school was built. Several influential parents in the community whose young kids played soccer at the YMCA had a seperate soccer facility built with school money. This was when USEC was sued by the district for monies owed to it and the disrict received millions. The facilities built were top notch. Huge bleachers, with lights and pressbox. The track was also placed here, the football field which is still at its original spot since 1958 received no new upgrades. The soccer program was competitive and decent numbers until that group of kids graduated. After that interest dwindled. The only soccer around is Waverly Y and Chillicothe.

    2. Socioeconomics, we get around mid 30% participation rate. Piketon has 179 boys grades 9-11, so that means 70-80 boys playing. The football team, while not dominate, has still had some success and consistently gets 45+ kids. Our Cross Country program was extremely strong in the 80's and 90's. The coach from that period, who won 12 league titles comes back to coaching and now we are getting 12-15 boys running. Golf usually has around 5-8 playing. Do the math, there is your total.

    3. Community involvement is near zero. The only people in the stands are parents, and maybe only half of them show up.

2001-2006 Piketon had a varsity boys soccer team. 2007-09 junior high coed only. 2010-present, coed varsity team. This team has 15 kids playing, 10 boys, 5 girls. In that game with Peebles, 2 boys starters missed for drivers ed, 1 girls starter missed for drivers ed.

We have a coach that wants to make the program strong, but we have been unable to field a jr hi team, let alone a pee wee program! You can count soccer fans in this village on 1 persons hand! I for one want all programs here strong and competitive, but it is not the school or personnel around here sabotaging anything, there just isnt a culture for the sport!

I found out a bit more of the Piketon v. Peebles game:

Peebles played 11 players (full strength) in the first half then played 9 players in the second half. The top scorers for Peebles had no more than 3 goals each (two players -- may have only had 2 each or one had 2 the other 3). Peebles had 11 different players score.

    Not so bad.

EDIT: Whoops...Piketon only took 9 players. Ouch.

Who on here is butthurt or QQ??? I had never seen such a score in a high school soccer game, found it interesting. I'm not from Piketon...but do get my teeth cleaned there.

I wasn't referencing anyone or any game in particular, but this discussion comes up anytime that one team wins a lopsided game, and inevitably, someone from the fan base of the losing team spouts off about how the winning team showed no class in scoring as much as they did. That's silly. What would be disrespectful would be to NOT try to score on a defense. Sort of a "Ha Ha! We don't have to score, and we're still gonna beat you," or a, "You poor team. You suck so bad. We should take it easy on you little guys."

That's disrespectful. You play until the whistle blows. Period.

I agree....just don't know where you came from.
