Wasting Food

  • Steel Valley Football
Does anyone have a significant other or family member who wastes food in any way? My kids waste food, of course - they are toddlers, but my wife wastes food in bulk. From not putting away perishables to leaving leftovers and not using all of the stuff we buy. I cringe every time I throw away stuff in the fridge.

It's not money issue, per se, though it is a money waster. Its more being annoyed at the disrespect for fresh food lol. Ever grab a stale bag of something you want with a cold beer? WTFingF? Grab a god damn chip clip woman - we have 20 of 'em.

My girlfriend is bad about this but wasting food has never really bothered me, as bad as that sounds. But she will usually leave a lot food on her plate or just leave stuff out overnight, like salad dressings, ketchup, etc. She might be booksmart but when it comes to simple things around the house she's an idiot.

My girlfriend will put leftovers in a container but never finishes them. So when we clean out the fridge I find about 20 containers hidden in the bottom drawers that are so nasty we throw the containers and food away.

I hate it when rolls or other types of bread from the bakery get mold within a day or two after purchase.

Just fresh fruit, sometimes we buy too much of it and it does not get eaten before it expires.

    No.

I don't care for leftovers or reheated food. My wife will eat them occasionally, and the boys sometimes for lunch. But we waste a lot of food. So I waste food based on the fact I'd rather eat something fresh(er) every meal.

I know, I know...starving kids in Africa. Sorry dad.

My family wastes a ton of food. We always make too much and then the leftovers never get eaten.

personally i like a lot of foods as much or better when they get reheated. I always make too much food especially on sundays during football sometimes it gets eaten sometimes not, but a lot of times ill take it to work we me for lunch during the week. if there is too much sometimes i will even freeze it and eat it a week later to keep from eating the same food over and over

We can't keep fruit in our house. As soon as it comes in the door my son gobbles it up. It's like candy to him.

No. I have dogs nothing goes to waste or I'll pitch it next doors so the coons can tip over the neighbors trash can simply because i don't like the neighbors.

We have three dogs, several goats and a pig. Food rarely goes in the trash. But it irritates me when my wife buys a bunch of food and we end up giving it to the animals. She always blames me for going out to eat too much.

We waste a lot of food and it drives me crazy. But I still do it, all the time.

My family buys groceries terribly and it results in a lot of waste. I keep telling them that getting less groceries more frequently would be better than getting a ton and having some of it spoil. Not to mention they always seem to cook way more than we need, just in case. Look, this is America we aren't starving and there doesn't need to be six extra chicken breasts just incase everyone wants another, they can deal with it.

That Africa thing is a myth, they're fine.

But, honestly, you need to learn how to "remake" things properly. There are very few meals that I can't reserve one or to days later and there is almost no difference. Like, chicken/peppers/onions in olive oil, butter, lemon. Back in the pan with new noodles and you'd not be able to tell, I promise.

I never waste food. I simply buy what I need for the week and finish it before I go the grocery store again.

This is what I do as well when I purchase food, don't see why more people can't do this.

It's always been an enigma to me when I hear people say they don't like leftovers...why not? If eaten within a reasonable amount of time (two days max), then it's not a quality of food issue, so what is it? Just curious.

Thats why I asked if OTHER people do. It was implied that I don't either. If you ever have kids it's almost unavoidable. Or, maybe, if you ever find a woman willing to marry you and she does. ;)

Most likely, they only know how to microwave.

    ^^^^

And here's one lobbed out there for the masses... ;)

I can reheat two-day old pizza to where you'd think it just got delivered.

    The skillet method?

My roommate and my GF are the King and Queen of wasting food. My roommate will cook his food, and then put the entire unfinished plate into the fridge (fork and all). Never to be eaten again. Drives me crazy. At least put the crap into a container so you can take it to work tomorrow. But no, he never does. He also doesn't cover the food with anything so it just sits there half eaten on the plate.

My girlfriend never finishes her leftovers from restaurants. She always stores them in my fridge (she's got her own place). So I usually eat them the next day. She can't get mad because to this day she's never eaten her leftovers. She'll throw them away.

I try to not waste food. It's too expensive here. So if I'm buying something like pizza, wings, pasta, etc.,. I'll get enough to last me two days.
