I'm not trying to troll, and I ask this in the most respectful way possible... But why do you have such a hard-on for Navy?
  • Con_Alma
Lets just say personal history with the Academy. Contracted with them for a period after undergrad.

So Notre Dame is on the list but no Ohio State? Sleeper will be on suicide watch.

So has a hard-on for Army, not Navy.

Sorry, I misunderstood...usually when somebody says they have a hard-on for somebody, it's not in a good way, so I thought you were insinuating that he was bashing Navy. I have to remember who I'm responding to here.

Most Ohio State students focus on impacting the world in a positive way rather than making tons of money.

this is a contradiction to your entire being.

It should be noted that East/West Coast schools, where grads get higher wages because of higher COL, dominate that survey. That said, OSU will admit anyone and I'm sure thousands of losers drag down the average.

On a related note, $200k+ for a Harvard degree to make $111k mid-career seems kind of a lousy ROI. Especially these days an undergrad degree continues to lose value. Would be interesting to see a study controlled for where people got graduate degrees from. Not that the choice of undergrad doesn't impact acceptance to grad school in several ways.

    ^^^

It should also be noted that these statistics are self-reported and aren't audited in any way by any independent source. It is known in the academic community that many schools "game" statistics to make themselves look better in publications. That doesn't make it accurate. I'd take this survey with the proverbial grain of salt. It's the same statistics that show that the average Georgetown Law grad makes $160K a year (ala Sandra Fluke) when the reality is half of Georgetown Law grads don't even have jobs. Let alone a $160K job at Cravath.

Good point. Plus I'm sure there's plenty of selection-bias in terms of who responds to these surveys. Somehow I don't see the Harvard grad making $70k a year proudly filling out the survey. Plus, one I-banker from Harvard that has risen to MD level making over a million a year is going to pretty heavily skew the results.

Details by specific industry/job-function would be more illuminating. The Harvard grad might be making $10k more on average, but does that justify the much higher tuition cost? Of course you could also argue the Harvard grad has opportunities in the more lucrative IB/consulting area, however many people would have no interest in the hours and pressure that goes with those jobs.

A degree from Ohio State or any B1G institution(not named Nebraska) is one of the most valuable and flexible degrees you can earn. You either go out and make a significant impact right away or you go out and earn a wage higher than the market average. Your choice.
