  I don't know the last time I had Kraft Mac and Cheese. But I do know I never gave a shit when a generic or other brand was used.

  There's generic where they simply put the generic label on the exact same product coming off the exact same line. Go to a factory sometime, and it's amazing how much people are paying for the label.
  
  Generic toilet paper just doesn't compare to name-brand, though. In order to be cheaper, it has to be made cheaper. TP is a bulk good that's cheap, light, and is made in such volume there's no way to just slap another label on it and sell it cheaper. You have to make poorer quality in order to make cheaper TP. When it feels like you're wiping with 200 grit sand paper, it's generic.

  My father said this back when I was in HS, so after we finished off a bottle of Heinz I kept the bottle and filled it with Aldi ketchup. Probably did this with 3 straight bottles (so a couple months in a row). Never told him until the next time he bitched about the brand of something. He was stunned and said he'd never even noticed.

  Peanut butter I tried cheaper versions but they all suck. Jif or skippy for me. Tools is another for me. I have done construction/maintenance for a long time. Cheap tools just dont cut it. Harbor freight has some good tools for the do it yourself guys but to use them every day just dont work.

  For cheese, I'm cool with Kroger brand deli-sliced, but if you go into the 12/16/24 pack slices of processed, it is flavorless (except for pepper jack).
  
  I'd agree with TP. I don't know what kind of generic stuff we have at the office, but it makes me glad I live about a 2-min drive from work, so if I have to go, it's just a quick jaunt home. That stuff is single-ply, but seems more like 1/2 ply.
  
  Most things, though, I don't get bothered by generics. Hell, when you consider the gap in pricing in some cases (head and shoulders vs. kroger-brand substitute shampoo for example), I prefer the generic because it's 1/3 the price.
