Google Wallet

CherAnyone use it? I have a ~50% success rate on actually getting it to go through.

believerWhat if i want to buy something somewhere that doesn't have NFC?... Seems to me that I'd still have to carry around my normal wallet until tap to pay becomes completely universal.
Plus, call me old skool but I'm not convinced cloud technology is 100% secure. I realize that if we've ever purchased anything on-line or simply used a debit or credit card that our personal finance information is already available to anyone who cares to see it, but cloud technology should invoke an anxiety response in all of us.
Besides it seems like the mark of the beast to me. lol -
believerOh yeah...I believe it's not available to iPhone users. Maybe Google should sue Apple?

It would need to be Google Purse if it was available to iphone users.believer;1254977 wrote:Oh yeah...I believe it's not available to iPhone users. Maybe Google should sue Apple?

Then you'd use regular plastic or cash. Duh.believer;1254973 wrote:What if i want to buy something somewhere that doesn't have NFC? -
gutI guess the solution would be to get a separate credit card with a small limit, like $500 or perhaps $1000, just in case your CC doesn't offer you the protection they usually do for some reason.
But, yeah, still not widely adopted nearly enough to justify bothering. If I have to carry my wallet might as well just not bother with Google's. The other issue is it's just as fast and easy to swipe a CC, so what' my incentive to use Google wallet? Leaving the app on running in the background would concern me that techgeek pick-pockets could steal from me as I walked past them on the street.
Even then, to truly ditch a wallet we need a lot more capability - d/l, insurance cards, etc...I've actually debated getting one of those door locks that works with NFC or over the internet with your phone. Once you can start your car with a phone ditching the keys seems like a bigger deal, to me, than the wallet. -
imex99I've used it a few times with my EVO 4G LTE, works good.

NFC is only active if your screen is on, and the app is unlocked.gut;1255235 wrote:But, yeah, still not widely adopted nearly enough to justify bothering. I understand, that was my point about it NOT being more convenient than a CC, and arguably less. And if it could always be on, that creates security risks.Cher;1255250 wrote:NFC is only active if your screen is on, and the app is unlocked. -

It could in theory be safer than walking around with your CC... unable to make a purchase without a PIN.gut;1255252 wrote:I understand, that was my point about it NOT being more convenient than a CC, and arguably less. And if it could always be on, that creates security risks. -

In theory, but in practice how often do people lose their wallet? Nowhere near as often as they lose their phone, and that's something you might not notice for a bit. Plus, I don't have any lock code on my phone - it's a nuisance, although I've been meaning to tweak it so it would only enable locking when I leave my house.Cher;1255254 wrote:It could in theory be safer than walking around with your CC... unable to make a purchase without a PIN. -

Isn't that exactly what I said? What's the convenience in it if you still have to carry both? :rolleyes:Cher;1255225 wrote:Then you'd use regular plastic or cash. Duh.
The security part of it still seems a bit dicey. Until the security issues are locked down and NSF is widely available it seems more like a techno-nerd's circle jerk than the next great innovation in personal financial transactions. -

Perhaps, but it's available in more places than you'd think.believer;1255292 wrote:Isn't that exactly what I said? What's the convenience in it if you still have to carry both?
