Empire State Building Shooting

Report that multiple people have been shot.
  • bigkahuna
Just saw it on yahoo. There are virtually no facts out yet though.

    That's good.

They are saying it was a disgruntled employee from a business inside the Empire State Building. At least 2 of the people are dead (in addition to the gunman) ... unreal. So sad.

Cops were going wild on my way to work this morning. I'm a few blocks from there. Still no real details on the situation.

I saw this in a comment on a short new blurb when the story broke.

"CNN says it was a robbery gone bad, Drudge Report says a dispute between co-workers"

But I thought you couldn't carry guns in New York City!??!?!?!?!?!?!??!

Yep, gun laws work, don't they? :p

Original shooting actually took place a block away from the ESB. Fired worker shot his boss in the face. Then a shootout with police made it's way down the block.

You mean someone dared take a gun into Bloomberg's city?!

At least they weren't drinking a 24 oz. soda.

No disrespect meant to the innocent victims, a horrible situation.

I'm tired of all this violent crime. I wish there were a solution and a fix to this.
  • Automatik
So I'm hearing that all of the 9 bystanders were hit by police fired bullets.
  • tk421
That's typical police, hit the innocent bystanders rather than the shooter.
  • WebFire
I'm pretty sure they hit the shooter.

I'm not into politics by any means, but it seems like gun control would be a good thing? Yea, bystanders were hit by cops... But they wouldn't have if this dude wouldn't have killed someone.

He broke the law against murder, do you have reason to believe he'd obey a gun law?

I'm thinking the kind of gun control they need is more time at the range. I don't understand the liberal belief that more gun laws will do anything when criminals already break the ones we have. What is the deal with that? You think these people that do these shootings give a rat's ass about gun control laws?

What I mean is if it were more difficult for him to actually get the gun, it may not have happened.

NYC has about the toughest gun laws in the country. He certainly did not have it there legally. Why do people think banning guns will make a criminal think "hmmm, guns are illegal. I shouldn't possess one"?
  • tk421
Exactly. You can't get a gun legally in NYC hardly. He already broke the existing law, why would additional laws do anything? Liberals are living in a fantasy land in regards to gun control. Chicago is the same way, you can't hardly get a gun legally there, some of the toughest in the country, yet 19 people were killed yesterday. How's that gun control working out?

Guns in people's hands would do little to control gang shootings in Chicago IMO. If gangs are going into a situation armed, they're expecting the other party to be armed as well. That's not saying that gun control is necessarily the issue, just that it placing more firearms in citizen's hands wouldn't necessarily solve it.

I don't think he was saying it would. But the proof is there that the tough guns laws don't drive down gun crime.

Guns are too big an industry for that to be effective. Hell, they're incredibly easy to get while staying 100% off the books.

It's a lot like drugs. Drugs are illegal to sell, distribute, possess, or use. How easy would it be for you to get a little ganja?

Only 3 pedestrians hit with rounds, the rest fragments.
