Unusual questions concerning learners permit/drivers license in Ohio

  • indestructible
If someone is over the age of 21, and has had a number of expired learners permits, do the same restrictions, etc. apply when a new learners permit is obtained? Specifically the having to have a learners permit for six months prior to getting an actual license? If that still holds, is there any way to "fight" that stipulation? If one has had their permit multiple times despite never getting a license, I don't see why they'd be forced to wait six months every time.

Being over 18 why don't you just go test for your license. The learner's permit seems moot if you have been driving that long.

Can you do that? I was under the impression that you HAVE to have a learners permit in order to get a license, regardless of age.

why didnt you get your license when you had your learners permit

I have never heard that. I believe ringz is right.

No offense, but I'd rather not get into that, just looking for answers.

Anyway, how exactly would this be done? I was going to go tomorrow to get a new learners permit being that my previous one expired, and I was hoping to get my license this time, ASAP (preferably within the next week or two). But if I can bypass that, I'm interested. I just don't know how to go about this, because again, I was always told growing up that there was no way to get a license without a current (aka not expired) learners permit.

If you obtain your license over the age of 18 there is no driver's training course or "hours behind the wheel" requirement.

Just show up at a testing station and get your license.
  • THE4RINGZ
Just have someone else drive you to the test. You are not legally permitted to drive at this point.

    Good luck!!!!

And that's a written test, and a driving test, and all that? I assume you still need proof of identity, and whatnot, without having a valid learners permit?

Yes it is a written test and a driving test. You will need your birth certificate and social security card to prove your identity.

making the jump from telegraph machine to a phone in order to call the BMV to find out the answers to these questions is also a new concept.

    Something shady going down here.

    Kidding, welcome to the OC.

In the State of Ohio, you are only required to get a permit if you are under 18. I also think you need one for a motorcycle, regardless of age.

So to echo everyone else... Just go to the testing place and do the driving test. You don't need a permit.

Let's see...looking for answers on a message board instead of just contacting the BMV and getting the exact information...hmmm...I think were starting to see why you've never passed the test before.

I don't think you would see the conspirators if you wouldn't let people create and keep multiple accounts.

You beat me to it. Sleeper apparently is running amok with 5+ usernames, dlazz openly has used two different usernames, etb has about 5, snotbubbles has about 5, and gibby made about 100 usernames throughout his career.

I can't blame posters for being suspicious every time there is a new member. How about approving a new username when it is created?

yeah, its easier to just yell at the old members.

People who would potentially want to post would create a username and then sit around for an hour or two before their username gets approved. By the time that happens, they've lost their desire to post.
