Olympics (Discussion and Results aka Spoilers)

BTW, I guess wrestling was scheduled earlier today, but Jake Varner won gold for the US. First time the US wrestling team had two gold medalists since 1996.

It is nearly impossible, thus why I don't even try. Rather know the results as they happen.

No way would I have read a PM from you. Lol Nothing good could come from that.

I was worried reading other popular threads on here that someone ornery might sneak a leak that would be tough to not see.

Thanks for not being a giant fucker. I knew you would enjoy my post about FSO.

Honestly, I am happy the Olympics are finally over. I am not a huge fan of them. I get tired of the never-ending swimming and track.

I'll miss it, love waking up to live sports in the morning!

I'll miss the Olympics. So much better than the normal sports coverage during the Summer.

Think of it this way. Usually it's about some NFL player retiring or coming back (ex. Favre) or NBA off-season moves, or baseball score when much doesn't matter as the season is so long.

Agreed and it's sports you never watch unless it's the Olympics. Like swimming track and field archery, and it gives me a reason to watch hot chicks play volleyball or gymnastics.

Big fan of the summer olympics. It's always a good summer of sports imo. You have all the golf majors, the euro cup, and then the olympics ending just in time for NFL season.

Yes it's been a great two weeks, albeit with less sleep than I would've normally gotten. I really don't think I gave two seconds of thought to a major US professional sport in that time period, not even to the Dwight Howard deal.

The Olympics are something I can sit down with my kids and really show them the variety of sports that are outside our everyday experience and are really exciting. Also, I try to teach them to appreciate what a unique and great country we live in with so many opportunities compared to other nations.

And the NBA Finals if it wasn't Flopapalooza.

Is this correct? Ohio State had zero medals winners this Olympics? Nobody? What about other Ohio athletes, any medals?

My cousin's roommate lost his bronze medal wrestling match for heavyweight, so there's another swing and miss.

A Toledoan won a silver in the high jump. Erik Kynard. He jumps for Kansas State.

Nick Thoman, Mariemont HS in Cinci, won a silver medal in the 100M backstroke.

One thing that NBC does well is that closing video package. Even though it's been the same theme for several years running, it's still a very good song.

It's the theme from Remember the Titans, by the way.

The Tour de France videos are usually pretty good as well, but nobody watches them. ;)

I have a cousin that's friends with him. He went to Mariemont a year earlier. Thoman is in the link under Arizona.

I was friends with Nick in HS and came in second to him a few times in the 100 and 200 back. I met him at a meet in Kentucky, my coach knew I was going to get my ass kicked so he told me to just give it everything I had from the start and see how long I could keep up with him in the 200 (I kept up for about a 75 then fell off). After that race he came up and talked to me as he didn't think anyone in that race had a shot of keeping up with him so he was impressed.

Who? Tervel Dlagnev? He isn't from Ohio.
