Urban Meyer apologizes to Orlando reporter

  • september63
He specifically requested to chat with him Sat after practice. Fowler says they had a 20 minute discussion and Meyer apologized for his actions. He desperately wanted to protect one of his players, but admitted he took the wrong approach in doing so.

Ill applaud Meyer for recognizing his mistake. Where are all the Florida fans from here that claimed he didnt do anything wrong? In the end, even Urban addmitted he was wrong!!!

Urban is a tool. He is an ego maniac. What the reporter did was accurately report what was said to him by that player.

Meyer is only sorry that it caused such a public ruckus.....

He wouldn't apologized if it wouldn't have been on tape.

Florida AD probably had a say in this...

I had no problem with Meyer's initial outburst. With the lack of integrity by many reporters these days, I wish he would have just taken his access pass from him and stuck to it.

But with the spiritual side of Meyer I understand why he apologized.

Nobody is a harsher media credit than me -- but Meyer was so far in the wrong on this one, nothing could save him.

The apology was likely dictated by those who sign his paycheck. The last thing they wanted was for this to be dragged out any longer.

As for why he did it (protecting a player...yeah okay, whatever), it doesn't excuse how he handled this whole thing -- which was wrong from the getgo.

Meyer is too smart and has had to have received media training by now, so one can only assume his ego and arrogance got the best of him.

When is he starting the leave of absence again?

This guy seems like a phony and was way out of line.

    I'm not a fan.

I am not a fan either, phony is right! He fits in perfectly with Fla!

I don't get it. How does "phony" fit perfectly with Fla?

He apologized to Fowler, that does not mean he admitted he was wrong.
Watch the interview. DT barely said "real quarterback". He could have said 'regular', or 'traditional' QB which is what he meant and everyone knew it. No one else made a headline out of it. They reported what DT said about practice. Fowler writes a sensational headline and blogged it, twisting the meaning of DT's words. DT was hurt because of all the reaction towards him, people thinking he dissed Tebow. Meyer defended DT to Fowler. Mike Bianchi writes for the same paper and he knows Fowler was wrong the way it was written, but it got them the attention they wanted. Meyer was right for doing what he did, and I already know that a 2011 recruit's parents feel the same as I do. They like that Meyer will defend his players/their son from the media twisting context.
Meyer could have handled it differently, so what. The whole issue is overblown.

No kidding. I thought he was supposed to be "taking it easy" after his health concerns but instead he goes off on a reporter like one of the Road Warriors on a roid rage.

Sounds like Woody Hayes before the punch. He will lose it at a game or have his heart blow up if he doesn't learn how to relax.

The leave was from signing day until the week of spring practice. He got healthy, went to Cincy, and Hawaii.
