Why do ACC schools fans, chant "ACC!" at the end of games they have won, in the ACC-Big 10 challenge?reclegend22 wrote: I agree with the premise. It doesn't make sense to root for a team that you hate all year long just because of a league association. You think Isiah Thomas was rooting for Michael Jordan in the '91 Finals because of their Eastern Conference brotherhood? Or vice versa the previous years. Um, no.
For me, however, I really only despise North Carolina in the ACC. Maryland fans hate Duke; I don't hate Maryland. I hate certain players and fans from other schools (Maryland's fans are insufferable, but I let it pass because they try so hard to be our UNC), but only Carolina boils to the point that I'll follow them through the NIT to watch them lose (which I have done this March, even as my team extends its journey into the real Dance). When Deron Washington played for Va Tech, I hoped the team bus collided with the bus BC's Sean Marshall was riding on. Now that they're all gone, I'll back them in the Dance. NC State has been losing for too long to even notice its fan-base and Wake hasn't reached a Final Four since '60. And schools like Miami are just to new to the conference to have a tremendous built-in hatred for them.
I wanted Grievis Vasquez to make the Final Four this year, and was disappointed when they lost. Had it been Maryland-Butler, however, I'm going with Butler the whole way.
And add OSU to my list of schools I have despised since I was seven. -
reclegend22Haha. Good reasoning. I can't say I envy ya there, though. (I'm not the best little kid person, even though I have a great appreciation for them, as anyone should. But I'll wait.)
In all seriousness, though, that's awesome. Congratulations. This was the perfect year to bring him into the world as a Heel, maybe even a championship season. Haha. J/k. -
hoops23lol, championship season... Funny guy.
Thanks for the congrats though. -

Come on, that's apples to oranges.. That's during a conference vs conference tournament of sorts.. Much different than your team losing in the NCAA tournament and jumping on another teams bandwagon from your conference.TheMightyGators wrote:

How so? The chanting of "ACC" is conference pride. Absolutely no difference in wanting to see other schools from your conference do well. Pretty much the same as 99% of the Big10 fans wanting the Big10 to do well in bowl games. Big10 fans like to down play it, because they have been so unsuccessful the past 5 bowl seasonslLTrain23 wrote:

hoops23Wait.. Would the past 5 bowl seasons include the most recent one? If so, I think you should retract that statement.
However, I'm not interested in conference debates. I like the teams I like... I don't jump on a similar conference teams bandwagon just because my lost. I'm not rooting for any other ACC teams.
The only teams I'm keeping tabs are now are Butler and Duke. I want to see Duke fail and I would like to see Butler do it, just because of how awesome it would be. -

That's kind of the point I, personally, was making. Aside from North Carolina, I tend to be very pro-ACC whenever the conference is involved in something, especially the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Like any other fan (Laley in the Big Ten, Az in the SEC, Killer in the Big East, etc.), I view my conference as the best in the game. I take pride in that and wish my conference -- outside UNC, always, and a team that I may detest on a given year -- the best. The Mighty Gators wrote:Why do ACC schools fans, chant "ACC!" at the end of games they have won, in the ACC-Big 10 challenge?
You also have to remember that, unlike the Big Ten and SEC, the ACC is a basketball-focused conference. It's the supreme sport in that part of the country for that particular conference. Although not as old as the Big Ten, which I believe dates back to like 1915, if not earlier, the ACC is considered by many the most successful basketball conference in college basketball history (relative to its inception in 1953). There is a far reaching conference pride there by the traditional nine schools, especially the bluebloods, the Dukes and Carolinas and NC States and Wakes and Marylands, that is unlike many basketball conferences. -

You are an idiot. Where on this thread or any thread did I say I wanted Tennessee to win? As matter of fact, I had OSU on my paper I filled out. Keep trolling.LTrain23 wrote:cats gone wild wrote: My lips are sealed. I figured Tenn had a good shot and were more talented, but alot of OSU fans doubted me and were over confident about this game. Good luck next year, and you have a great recruiting class coming in.
I find it funny when SEC fans root for other schools when their team is eliminated from something. Stupidest thing ever.
When the Browns suck, I'm not rooting for the Steelers, Ravens, or Bengals.. Likewise with the Tribe or Cavs...
You think I'll root for another Big Ten or ACC school? HELL NO! -

A lot of OSU fans were over confident? To the contrary, many were VERY worried about this game. I was confident OSU could win, but never ever said it was a done deal. I liked the matchup. But Tenn played lights out, and OSU wasn't on top of their game...thus Tenn squeeks by. I said for Tenn to win, they would have to play very well, and OSU would have to be off a little bit. And thats what happened. Stop with the twisting to try and make OSU fans look bad.cats gone wild wrote: My lips are sealed. If you want over confidence....look in the mirror. I read your posts about UK vs WVU. -

First off, YOU DELETED that part that was referenced to you, how stupid can you be to quote me and delete the part that was directed at you?
My god, you have to be the single dumbest person on this forum. I also think you need to hit bible study harder.. A man of your high religion shouldn't come out and call somebody an idiot, especially when they haven't called you anything. -

"Team SEC" exists for football season only and not in basketball.cats gone wild wrote: Im guessing this is towards Mighty gators since their hasnt been any other SEC posters cheering for anyone besides their own team? Where has the "team SEC" been for this bball tourney?
No Florida fan knows this because they all congealed in a gutter or a swamp somewhere in the last five years, so they're obviously quite ignorant to the way that things are supposed to be. -

Well, considering that the SEC only had 2 teams make the sweet 16, there was no reason to be doing the "team SEC"!. duh.cats gone wild wrote:centralbucksfan wrote: BIG TEN!!! lolsleeper wrote: LOL @ team SECdevil1197 wrote: How many SEC teams are in the Final Four?

Hey, I know this and I'm a Gators fan. And I don't believe in team SEC, fuck that. I hate LSU I hate Georgia I hate Auburn I hate Alabama I hate EVERYONE else in the SEC. The only school I respect is Vanderbilt because of their academics.NNN wrote:

+1.
It's cool, I just heard that the SEC is going to be considered a midmajor in basketball next year, so they won't have near as many bubble teams that don't deserve to be there getting in.
FYI...Tennessee 3rd best team in the SEC this year.
Horizon League: 1
ACC: 1
Big East: 1
Big Ten: 1
SEC: 0
The SEC had as many or more teams in the elite 8 than any other conference in the country, and none of them advanced to the next round, let alone the NEXT game, to have an "all SEC national championship" as you so proudly thought.
FAIL.
Hey I have an idea, why doesn't TEAM SEC get together and learn how to make a 3, and at least half their free throws, and then we'll talk about the SEC winning another NC in basketball -

HereticI feel bad for Team SEC. And Team Big XII (assuming Big XII fans have the same kinship towards their rivals). 4/8 Elite Eight teams; 0/4 Final Four teams.
As for the admittedly good point brought up about conference loyalty during something like the Big 10/ACC Challenge, here's my take on it: It's early-season, non-conference and an 11-on-11 conference-vs-conference challenge. In the grand scheme of things, this means two things...the potential for a good OOC win for a team AND for fans of any team in one conference to say, "We're better than those guys!"
When it comes to the NCAA tournament, my "fandom" comes down to these factors.
1. Being a fan of the team (a list which only includes OSU and Ohio U.)
2. Liking a player or the coach of a team.
3. My bracket(s).
I cheered for Xavier to beat Minnesota. I cheered for Siena to beat Purdue. The only non-OSU Big 10 team I've actually cheered for non-bracket reasons is Michigan State because I (a) respect Izzo immensely and (b) graduated from Kenton back in the day and they have a player (Sherman) on their team. And because Kansas and OSU both losing killed my Midwest bracket. I would have been spitting venom at the Spartans if they were playing Kansas or the Bucks...
