NCAA Sweet 16: (2) West Virginia vs. (11) Washington

  • Non
West Virginia executed very well against Missouri in the round of 32.

The Mountaineers didn't turn the ball over, which was key against Missouri's pressure, and they crashed the boards and scored key baskets when they needed to.

This game sets up similarly in terms of the contrasting styles. Like Missouri, Washington likes to play fast but they have more talent in Isaiah Thomas and Quincy Pondexter. Missouri didn't have go-to players offensively.

WVU should again have an advantage on the glass, but taking care of the ball could be a concern with starting point guard Darryl Bryant out.

WVU relies a lot on Da'Sean Butler. He steps up and carries the team when he has to. He may have to if the Mountaineers want to be playing on Saturday.

anyone try to launch the on demand player?

    not working for me

This game sucks balls....switch it over to Butler/Cuse

Huskies playing pretty well, even without Pondexter because of foul trouble. If they can keep this lead until the half, they might have a great shot at the upset once Pondexter is back in there.

WVU has been a second half team all year. As long as they can keep it close going into halftime they will come out of the locker room smoking.

It would have been funny to see the last Big East team left get knocked out, but Washington sucks. This game will end up WVU by 15+.

This game has been atrocious. Give me a break, Washington.

Makes me sad a team like Washington (shitty) made it further than Kansas.

    Fuckin committee...
  • devil1197
    Fuckin committe?

    You lost to NIU man.

Officials are horrible in this game and I don't care who wins. About as bad as Washington.
  • eersandbeers
The officials do blow, but at least they are consistently awful.

I find it funny everything thinks Washington sucks. The committee didn't put them in the Sweet 16 as an 11 seed. They won their way to the Sweet 16. Something Kansas couldn't do despite a favorable matchup.

Yeah, fuckin committee....putting a 30 win team ranked in 7 polls as a fucking 9 seed.

Whether they won their way to the sweet 16 or not, they still suck...or at least are sucking it up tonight.

I'll give WVU credit though. they are playing tough defense.
But Washington has missed so many easy buckets and have turned it over a ton.

Their a mid major with no big history like Butler. They were seeded just fine.

If KU couldn't get by NIU in the 2nd round what makes you think they would have beaten any other top seed on their way to a title?

I'm not saying they would you argumentative cocksucker, i'm simply saying NIU shouldn't have been a 9 seed.

Neither team can do anything on offense. This is one of the ugliest games I've seen in awhile. 40+ total turnovers now.

But both teams are playing great defense also. I think UW has the best defense WVU has seen all season. They just have absolutely nothing on offense.

Washington is fucking putrid. This is what you get when you have a team upset its way through their conference tourney. Then they get a good draw, catch a couple of breaks, and they are in the Sweet Sixteen. But sooner or later they'll revert back to what they truly are. We're seeing the real Washington Huskies tonight! WVU isn't even playing well, and they have this one comfortably in hand.

Fuckin' committee, boohoo. That was last weekend.

This has been an awful game of basketball.

Washington doesn't suck overall, but when comparing them to the average Sweet 16 team they're pretty damn sucky. I'm not sure I would pick them to beat any other team in the Sweet 16.

Nobody is bashing WVU, just pointing out the facts. They did what they should have tonight. Nobody is going to be wowed by the performance, because it's been an ugly game. If they play like this Saturday, Kentucky will beat them by 20 (barring a shocker against Cornell).

I wasn't taking it as if someone was bashing WVU. I just don't understand when people say "so and so sucks," yet they are in the Sweet 16. True, they may not have been the best during the season, but you are a pretty good team to make it to the Sweet 16.

Haha, you have some of the thinnest skin on here bud.

NIU is placed just where they should have been.

Yes, they had a lot of wins but no win was good or above. They beat Boston College, ISU, and Iowa. Those are the big name teams they beat.

WVU has won several games in a row with this style.

Very good defense. Some nice length and they get on the glass. Even though they're an ugly, grinding team they have executed well when needing a basket.

Kentucky could be a different story.
  • killer_ewok
I hope WVU wins the whole thing now. If not them....one of the underdogs. Well, except Butler (yep, I'm bitter).

In an interview with Bob Huggins on ESPN this morning, Bobby plugged Midvale. The hosts talked about Huggins growing up in the shadows of West Virginia. Is Midvale really in the shadows of WV?

Oh well it felt odd to hear them plug Midvale on the radio.

I would really like to see WV against Ohio State for the Championship. That's how I have my bracket. I know it won't happen but I wish it would.
