Cincinnati signs another top notch WR

  • goosebumps
Kenbrell Thompkins is the #1 JUCO WR in the country. Originally signed with Tennessee but was allowed to look elsewhere when Kiffin left for USC.

Had offers from Bama, LSU, Florida, Oregon, Cal, UCLA, etc. but eventually chose to become a Bearcat.

He can start practicing immediately and will be a great addition to the already stacked WR corp (Hazelton, Binns, Woods)

This Offense just keeps getting better and better.

Great pickup for the Cats. 6'3 195 lbs, 4 star athlete. Every team in the SEC and on the West Coast was salivating over this kid. He had originally committed to TN but was a casualty of Lanke Kiffen bailing. Kiffen offered him at USC but supposedly Thompkins lost all respect for him.

I watched this kid on Youtube and all I can say is WOW!. There is going to be some serious talent at WR with Vidal Hazelton, Armon Binns, DJ Woods, Jamar Howard, and DyJuan Lewis already in the fold. Couple that with Pead catching balls out of the backfield and our strong set of TE's and UC's offense could put up better numbers in 2010 than they did in 2009. And we know how productive they were in 2009!

I really hope they redshirt Lewis though. Would be nice to have him for an extra year.
  • Little Danny
I would not be surprised to see both he and Jamar Howard redshirt. The 2011 WR corps wil be thin with the graduation of Binns, Hazelton and Barnett. Howard only has one more year of eligibility and has yet to hit the field for any considerable time. With the talent stockpiled for this season I doubt he would get any PT in 2010. In 2011 he would be a likely starter.
  • goosebumps
I actually kind of forgot about Howard. He only had a couple of catches last season after he was expected to make a splash.

I can't wait for the spring game, should be a great one. Will be on Fox Sports Ohio, but Im going to be there. You going Danny?

I'm not able to make it. I live in Columbus and we are throwing a birthday party for my mother over at my house. Probably not a good idea to skip on that for the Bearcat Bowl. Sounds like it will be a great time and I anticipate a pretty good turnout. From what I see on the UC boards people are already are thirsty for the football season to start.

Great news! I really can't believe how loaded this offense is.
  • 3reppom
Turns out Thompkins might not be headed to Clifton. There are rumors going around that he is having second thoughts about the Bearcats. Then again I have heard rumors that he has already faxed his letter of intent to the Lindner center so I really don't know what to make of it. Obviously I want him at UC but until such time as he is enrolled at UC I will delay my enthusiasm

Great get for the Cats. Now if they would just work on that Defense.

They must have some nice prisons in Cincinnati...
  • Little Danny
Just to clarfiy, Thompkins is coming to Clifton. He is eligible to enroll in Spring Quarter and participate in Spring Practices.

It appears Coach Butch Jones is a serious recruiter. I am looking forward to our 2011 class of recruits and I am confident he will get the right guys at the right spots.
  • 3reppom
I saw him on campus today and i guess the rumors of Tennessee not letting him out of his LOI because of the upcoming game with UC were unfounded.
  • goosebumps
Heard from a buddy that ESPN is calling UC's WR corp is going to be the best in the nation... What took them so long? :)

there will be a lot of hype leading up the the Oklahoma game.

... and yet again Sporting News/Phil Steele, et al. will pick UC to finish about 4th-5th in the league once again. Brian Bennett over on the ESPN Big East Blog has been on Pitt's nuts ever since the Sugar Bowl. Listening to him UC might as well not bother to show against Pitt, WVU, UCONN and Rutgers.

By the way, the Cats return to practice next week. It will be interesting to see if Thompkins will be out there. I believe he will be wearing #1.

On paper Pitt is the strongest team in the Big East. They bring back a ton of people, the only notable people not coming back are Dorrin Dickerson, Bill Stull and Mick Williams. I don't mind the Pitt talk but the WVU and UConn talk is confusing. I don't see how Geno Smith is going to be an adequate replacement for Brown early on in conference play or how their defense is going to be discernibly better than it was last year. UConn was dealt a shitty hand of circumstances and by and large overcame it, but looking at the stats their record was what it should have been. They finished middle of the pack in all but one major statistical measure, and I don't see where the improvement is supposed to come from at all.

I have no problem with Cinci taking some players from Florida and Bama...nor do I have a problem with them having some success. As long as they dont try to claim they are better than OSU that is.
  • goosebumps
I would say that UC's offense is much better than OSU.

I agree Pitt is the strongest team on paper. In fact, they have been for the past couple of seasons. Thankfully, they are still coached by the Stache. That in itself means Pitt will lose a game or two they should win on paper.

As far as the other teams go, there is a perception out there that the BE is not legit unless Pitt, WVU and Syracuse are good. Also, tragedy brought UCONN to the forefront last season. People have been overrating Rutgers and USF for the four or five years. Many are hoping UL will finally turn it around with Charlie Strong (who is recruiting like a mad man and has brought in some quality assistants from SEC land). Bottom line, in a perfect world to the media UC would finish last in the Big East every season.

I want you to take a good look at this thread. The only UC fans that post on this board that I am aware of Goosebumps, 3reppom, Dave and me (thee is also a person called bcubed but he/she has not posted on this thread yet) Last year you did not year trash talking from either of us. I have a hunch that when the season comes around and UC wins its first few games in convincing fashion, you will see some people come out of the woodwork claiming to be UC fans and talking a lot of smack (ie. FrankPaTang or whatever he called himself). Please note, that person does not speak for UC fans. In fact, my hunch was that individual was a Michigan fan who just liked to rile up OSU fans.

That being said, if UC takes care of business next season, then by all means will I believe this team could compete with OSU. Maybe we'll get to see it in a bowl game in 2010.

    LOL

OSU's offense plays in a conference that plays defense and has more than 0 good teams.

Passing offense yes, but rushing hell no. OSU will have 3+ RB's next season that would see time or start in UC's back field along with an offensive line that may be one of the best in college football next season.

I'll give you Saine and maybe Herron. But I don't think that any other backs on the OSU depth chart would have much of a chance to unseat Pead. After Isiah there is a big drop off and some of those backs would get run at UC, but they wouldn't start. Pead is going to have a big year this season because Jones will be more willing to give him 15 carries a game than Kelly was.

May as well keep all the UC info on one thread....

Vidal Hazelton sounds confident and Coach Jones seems to have high expectations of him. Another reason why UC will have the best WR's in the country.
