William Buford and his NBA chances
-
reclegend22I've heard that he'll take the money if it's there. Take that for what it's worth, but if there's a chance he'll even sniff the first round, I think he's gone.
There is a chance that both Turner (this is a certainty) and Buford will be at the next level next year at this time. -
namod65But see that is why I started this thread. There really isn't a chance that he will be drafted in the first round this year.
-
reclegend22True, but when I say "sniff," I mean early second round, too.

Thats interesting...I have heard and read differently. Same stuff was said last year and Buford laughed it off as nothing but rumors.reclegend22 wrote: I've heard that he'll take the money if it's there. You didn't hear that from his father.reclegend22 wrote: I've heard that he'll take the money if it's there. Take that for what it's worth, but if there's a chance he'll even sniff the first round, I think he's gone. -
devil1197Buford won't be projected at all in the 1st round and that means no guaranteed money.
He isn't coming out. -
namod65Well so much for those who just assumed he was gone. After the game tonight he said he was coming back.

SQ_CraziesIf he can play like he did in the 1st half last night all the time, he's definitely worthy of top 15 and has a nice future in the league. But he sucked it up in the 2nd half. Good decision to come back, hope he sticks by that. He's got talent, if he can work on his consistency next season then he'll change my mind.

Exactly. Consistancy and strength. The other issue with Buford, he lets his shooting dictate what he does in other areas of his game. When he doesn't shoot well...he doesn't defend or rebound either. He disappears. Its almost as if he isn't even on the floor. He shuts down. He needs to learn to overcome this. Too much potential to let shooting affect him that much.SQ_Crazies wrote: If he can play like he did in the 1st half last night all the time, he's definitely worthy of top 15 and has a nice future in the league. centralbucksfanHear rumblings that Buford is thinking of declaring for NBA. Anyone else hearing anything? I think this would be a huge mistake. Like Turner last year, I think he could improve his position with another year which would result in more money for him. Hope this isn't true. But all that are declaring, that are questionable...it wouldn't be shocking.

Depends on where he is projected. If he is hearing first round, I could see him going. It may be best to declare and not hire an agent. That way if his stock drops, he can return. But he has so much work to do if he wants a long term career in the NBA.centralbucksfan wrote: Hear rumblings that Buford is thinking of declaring for NBA. Anyone else hearing anything? sportswizuhrdIf he isn't planning on playing his senior year, I say declare, don't hire an agent and see what parts of his game the NBA people want him to work on. Come back to school and improve draft stock. Declare w/agent next year.

bulldog8Since it has been mispelled 100 times on this thread, it's consistEnt, not consistant Buford better get his butt back at OSU next season. Not only does he need to improve his game, but the Bucks certainly need him.

Ha ha...the difference is, Buford has that ability, Dielber does not. When you learn to understand and accept that...then you will realize exactly what Diebler is and what he does. Its really not that hard. Again, your expectations were unrealistic for him coming out of HS.thedynasty1998 wrote:

As for Buford, he has the ability and has shown it. He can pass, shoot, rebound, etc, etc. A player with his ability should not disappear completely, as he does, as much as he does. After the first 10 min of the Tenn game....it was like he wasnt' even on the floor. -
thedynasty1998I don't want to turn this into a Diebler discussion, as I was just trying to make a joke. But I didn't have any expectations for him coming out of HS.
If Buford can improve as much as Turner did between his sophomore and junior seasons he'll be just fine next year. I expect Buford to really improve dramatically this offseason and I honestly believe he could be in consideration for Big 10 POY next year. I know you still have Lucas and Hummel and a few others, but I expect Buford to be OSU's leading scorer and for OSU to be in contention for the Big 10 championship. If those two things happen, he's a candidate for POY in the conference. -
Thunder70Lucas is back again next year? judas...how old is he....

Actually, there has been talk that he and Summers may test the draft waters.Thunder70 wrote: Lucas is back again next year? judas...how old is he.... -
krambmanBuford is essentially in the same position Turner was in next year. He could leave now and will likely be a late first round pick, or he could come back and potentially move way up the board. It will come down to how much he's enjoying college, how badly he wants to make a deeper tournament run, and how willing he is to delay payday.
-
thedynasty1998
I've heard this comparison all too often. He's not in the same situation. Turner was 2nd in Big 10 POY voting his sophomore season and was a borderline lottery pick.krambman wrote: Buford is essentially in the same position Turner was in next year. Buford is a 2nd rounder at best at this point. -

No, Turner was not a borderline lottery pick after last season. He was mid-to-late first round. Buford is late first to early second round right now. You have to remember that the NBA couldn't care less about what a player has actually done, they only care about talent, potential, and upside, and Buford has all three. Come on, BJ Mullens didn't even start as OSU and was a second round pick! They are in the same situation in the sense that both could have left (leave) early and have gotten (get) a nice payday, or stick around and extra year, really move up, and then really cash in.thedynasty1998 wrote:

OMG this is the whole point of the thread as I keep saying! Do the research, Buford is not projected to get drafted in any mock draft out there. Here is the proof, he's not on any of these and wasn't on any of them before he said he was staying. Yes the NBA drafts on potential, and Mullens was on these mock drafts the year he was here. Buford is not.krambman wrote:

thedynasty1998Mullens is a 7 footer who runs well and is a great athlete. Completely different.
I've yet to see a draft board with Buford in the first round as well. Turner was considered by some a borderline lottery pick last year. He was surely a 1st rounder. Like I said, they are not in the same situations.
And I don't direct that at anyone individually. I've heard radio personalities say the same thing.
