Tebow compared to the last 5 #1 drafted SEC QB's
-
cats gone wildCompared to the last 5 SEC QB's to be drafted #1 overall in the NFL draft, Tebow has better stats.
http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/Articles/11_3171_A_tale_of_six_quarterbacks.html -
Lovejoy1984Timmy Chang and Colt Brennan had stats better than all of those guys.
Not to mention Graham Harrell who did it in the Big 12.
Point being.....stats mean squat. -
ytownfootballA system quarterback with poor mechanics, a substandard wonderlic that hasn't nestled his hands under center for four years......stats mean little at this point.
-
september63Urban Meyer's last QB drafted in the 1st round was Alex Smith (Utah). He went #1 overall. Hows that working out?
-
cats gone wildI didnt write the article, just posted the link.
-
queencitybuckeyeIf they're going to use that flawed logic, why don't they take it to its natural conclusion and predict that Tebow will be a better pro than Manning?
-
lhslep134Cats, just got done reading that as well my friend just sent me the link on facebook.
QCB, who's to say Tebow can't be better than Manning? I personally don't believe he'll come close, but because he's not in the NFL yet you can't logically rule out the possibility.
The point the article is making is that at the end of the day, you need to have skill to be as efficient as Tebow, and I'd say Tebow has a ton of fucking skill, moreso than a lot of you haters give him credit for. -

Can't? No, I can't say that.lhslep134 wrote: QCB, who's to say Tebow can't be better than Manning? I personally don't believe he'll come close, but because he's not in the NFL yet you can't logically rule out the possibility.
EXTREMELY unlikely? Yeah, I'm comfortable saying that. -
TheMightyGators
Really going out on a limb there aren't you? Considering Peyton Manning is thought by some to be the best NFL QB ever. I hope Tim goes on to have a long NFL career. Whatever happens to him, though, won't change the fact that he is going to go down as one of the best college qbs ever, with TWO National Championships at the University of Florida!queencitybuckeye wrote:

Tim Tebow has been a part of 2 national championships.
He's only led Florida to 1. I'm not saying he wasn't important back in '06, but that's like saying Maurice Hall was an integral part of Ohio State's 2002 championship win because he had playing time backing up Clarett.
I love the Gators and I love Tebow, but I by no means would say he's fully responsible for 2 national championships, the first one was Leak's.
But the fact that he had a higher career passer rating than those other QB's listed in the article is nothing short of phenomenal, especially in a league that puts out high quality defenses year in and year out. -
darbypitcher22sounds to me like they guy who wrote that is a complete moron

stats mean nothing, then lets see another QB do what he did. I guess we'll see Brantley rush for 900 yards this year at QB. Lets see another QB end up with 15 career INT's with 3+ years playing.ccrunner609 wrote: Lets see, Tebow played a OOC schedule where he never left the state of Florida for 4 years, the opponents they played were a complete joke in those games where he racked up tons of stats.
He got to call his own number whenever he wanted.........stats mean nothing. -

Florida still would have dominated OSU in the NC game without Tebow, but he did contribute in the NC game. I believe he accounted for 3 TD's. They also might not have made the NC that year without him, as he contributed in some key situations throughout the regular season. -

Only an incredibly obtuse individual would make the blanket statement that "stats mean nothing".ccrunner609 wrote: Lets see, Tebow played a OOC schedule where he never left the state of Florida for 4 years, the opponents they played were a complete joke in those games where he racked up tons of stats.

Okay and Maurice Hall scored the winning touchdown against Illinois and the winning touchdown against Michigan, but I still wouldn't say he was an integral part of the team.TheMightyGators wrote:

Tebow was a player on that team, but there were no games they would have lost if it wasn't for him. He was very effective of course, don't get me wrong, but that championship was Leak's. -

Better go back and watch the Tennessee game from that year, or were you an Ohio State fan that week?lhslep134 wrote:

lhslep134Like I said, Maurice Hall provided game winning touchdowns but doesn't mean he lead his team or was an integral part.
You're acting like Tebow was the only person on that team capable of picking up those first downs on that winning drive (yes I know what you're talking about, I'm not a bandwagon fan like you think I am), and I remember watching that game thinking "damn, Tebow is really effective as a runner" but that doesn't mean that he was an integral part of the team. He was a ROLE player, his role was to pick up short yardage situations, just like Hall was a ROLE player, his role was to step up when Clarett was injured.
In 2008, Tebow wasn't a role player, he was the starting quarterback.
In 2006, Tebow wasn't the starting quarterback, he was a ROLE player.
How many times do I need to repeat the same point? He owns 2 national championships but he was the leader for only 1. -

I certainly don't disagree with what you are saying. I'm pointing out that Tebow did contribute in the 2006 season, and did in fact help Florida in winning the National Championship. He wasn't a player a long for the ride. He didn't play a major role, but he did play and win 2 National Titles.lhslep134 wrote: Like I said, Maurice Hall provided game winning touchdowns but doesn't mean he lead his team or was an integral part.

j_crazyLOL Jamarcus Russell and Tim Couch. Okay, bro.
Look I'm not trying to devalue Tebow. I don't want him on my team, but that's because we have a pretty good TE and Pat White so he doesnt' seem to be improving the team. But he's a great player and I'm sure he'll get drafted higher than he should because of the tremendous potential/work ethic he has. That said he might get drafted by a complete dog of a team and fade into pro football obscurity, that won't be his fault. -
NateTim Tebow is obviously a "project" QB. There is going to be a team like Cleveland or New England that is going to drop him to 3rd in the depth charts and let him learn and work on his mechanics. He has potential every one is seeing. Unfortunately, he is high risk. He will most likely be picked higher than what he is currently worth but 3 years down the road, he may look like a first rounder. I don't know if you could honestly get mad if any team drafted him with the potential high reward off of the high risk. He isn't a first rounder so you won't be giving
him mucho dinero.
As a Browns fan, if they grab him in the 2nd round, which I doubt they will because I see them trading up for McCoy, I am not disappointed. Fans of the team that draft Tebow must realize that its going to take patience with him. 2 to 3 years and you could have an excellent QB. -
TiernanThat's quite a step down for Timmy...usually he's being compared to Jesus, Moses,Gandhi and Godzilla.

If stats dont mean anything, then why are you talking about his wonderlic stats? Which were higher than Dan Marino's by the way...how'd Dan do?ytownfootball wrote: A system quarterback with poor mechanics, a substandard wonderlic that hasn't nestled his hands under center for four years......stats mean little at this point.
Didn't Bernie Kosar have awful mechanics? How long was he a starter in the NFL?
Tebow will be just fine. -
ytownfootball
Because they relate to how a player will progress in the NFL, not what he did in college. What scouts do with the information is pretty arbitrary, but they don't give the test to fill up time. He may be fine, he may not be, all the questions I posed are things scouts take into consideration, whether you agree with them or not is irrelevant. If stats dont mean anything, then why are you talking about his wonderlic stats? -
sleeperI think it would be more interesting to see what LSU Qb's can beat a depleted Penn State LOL
