Tubby Smith Back To The SEC?
-
Azubuike24The talk of Tubby taking the Auburn job has heated up lately. I never thought it had any legs, but apparently it just might.
Not sure how I'd feel with Tubby making his 3rd trip to the SEC, but it would certainly improve the coaching in the SEC and create another interesting storyline in a normally "uninteresting" match-up (Kentucky/Auburn). -
reclegend22Apparently the Oregon rumors did have no legs?
-
reclegend22That first Rupp game would be a fantastic fan viewing experience. Then the game will start.

Azubuike24Tubby to Oregon? No way. I'm not sure he's even a great fit at Auburn, but it would be cool if he took the job. He is exactly the type of coach they need to maximize what their basketball program can do. Opening a new arena next year, they desperately need a fresh start.
-
NonThey should try to get Mike Anderson.
Missouri to Auburn not sure if that's an upgrade but I guess it would be if you offer a lot.
He's from Alabama, coached in Alabama at UAB, spent a long time at Arkansas as an assistant.
Sweet 16 with UAB, Elite 8 with Missouri... -
hoops23Is Auburn a better job than Minnesota? I'd think their about equal.
-
Azubuike24I think Minnesota is a better job personally. Then again, Tubby could get a better job than Minnesota, and always could have, so I don't know if that's the issue.

jordo212000Seems like a lateral move at best.

september63Auburn is opening a new 90 Million dollar Arena next season. Id say that would be pretty enticing for any coach.
-
gorocks99Yeah, that's the one nugget that Auburn has to offer .... the sparkling new arena.
That said, I believe Tubby is happy in Minnesota and will stay there for at least next season. -
Laley23Minny is a better job. But Auburn is in the south, where Tubby is from and has recruiting ties too. Better pool of players to recruit. A style of basketball that fits him more than the Big Ten. It would be a fantastic hire for Auburn and a smart move for Tubby, imo. I think he could build a more solid program in Auburn than he will ever be capable of at Minny simply because he knows the area better.

Cleveland BuckHe's taken the Gophers to the NCAA tournament a few times, so he hasn't done a bad job, but he would have a better chance at success at Auburn. In the Big Ten, Minnesota will almost never be better than Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Illinois, and when Indiana gets back to form, Tubby would be battling for 6th or 7th place every year with teams like Michigan, Northwestern, and Iowa who are decent programs in their own right. In the SEC, Auburn will never be as good as Kentucky or Tennessee, but they if Tubby can get some players they can challenge Florida and Vanderbilt on their down years. He would also get some better NCAA seeds finishing 3rd or 4th in the SEC than he would finishing 6th or 7th in the Big Ten.
