Sports Illustrated's Stewart Mandel: Ohio State got the worst NCAA draw
-
ytownfootballBut that just doesn't make it right now does it. It's no different than the BCS, except the NCAA sponsors the tournament but it does not sponsor the BCS.
That is the difference and why there is just as much discussion of the topic as with the BCS. -
thedynasty1998Does it make it right? Sure. The best 64 teams get put into a tournament and they play until 1 team is standing.
-
ytownfootballDoes it make it right? No. Because as an NCAA sponsored event there should be no bias that enters the discussion as to who gets seeded where as a product of ratings and monetary gain. The BCS is a different animal.
It is what it is but the contradiction is there and it's blatant. -
thedynasty1998Let me preface, that I think the NCAA is as money hungry as any corporation out there and I'm really not arguing with you, but I thought it would be interesting to see what the NCAA's mission is, and here's what I found:
"Our purpose is to govern competition in a fair, safe, equitable and sportsmanlike manner, and to integrate intercollegiate athletics into higher education so that the educational experience of the student-athlete is paramount"
I found it very interesting that it says "equitable", so with that said, I guess it does make it right if in their mission statement they state they are trying to generate income. -
ytownfootballBut equitable contradicts their primary objective of fair (as listed first), which is my point. I've done the same as you've done here re: the BCS. Their mission statement is a little vague/messy when trying to apply it to money, even when you go further into it.

Actually, the 65th team is happy too, they're in ... although playing in Dayton is hardly that excitingthedynasty1998 wrote: They picked the best 64 this year and usually do a good job. If you are the 65th best team and want to cry, then win some games. -

bucks36I would like to know who Coach K had to go down on to get the draw he got!! First off getting the #3 overall ahead of Syracuse and then being in by far the easiest region. I hate Duke.

slingshot4everMandel has loved both KU and OSU all year. Hence his focus on that region and the fact that he calls OSU Gtown the best potential sweet 16 match up with the winner vs KU as the 2nd best potential elite 8 match up. CBS should just show the Midwest region on TV and make everyone else watch their weak regions on the internet or iPhone.

krambmanThe problem for OSU is that the Big Ten Tournament ends too late. It is the last championship game, ending roughly an hour before the brackets are released. By the time the game starts, the committee basically has the bracket done. This is why some major conferences like the Big XII have moved their tourney title game to Saturday. Also, the fact that they looked rusty in their first two games and then beat Minnesota (a bubble team) didn't help any. Had they played and beaten Michigan State or Wisconsin in the final game, it may have helped the Buckeyes some.
-
WebFireWell I had Gtown beating OSU, so I think their bracket got a little easier.

But it's the same thing every year. Every year the highest seed from the Big Ten gets screwed (or seeded higher than they should be) due to the tourny ending so late.krambman wrote: The problem for OSU is that the Big Ten Tournament ends too late. Yes it did! Although after watching GT play..even if they had won, I felt better about that matchup then I originally did. But now..don't even have to worry about it.WebFire wrote: Well I had Gtown beating OSU, so I think their bracket got a little easier.
But OSU still has to get things done. IF they win tonite..the next game wont' be easy by any means. Okie St or G.Tech are pretty decent.
