Iowa fires head coach Todd Lickliter
-
Scarlet_FeverWhere do they go now? I know there is a good young coach at New Mexico that just earned his team a 3 seed. Maybe they could go after him.

I doubt he leaves for a school that fired him...Scarlet_Fever wrote: Where do they go now? I know there is a good young coach at New Mexico that just earned his team a 3 seed. Maybe they could go after him.
...I mean, please tell me that was sarcastic and new he was the coach at Iowa before and not UNM. -

Obviously he knew. I was going to say that I thought they were stupid for firing Alford in the first place. And I'll never understand why Indiana has stayed away from him like the plague when looking for a coach several times in recent years.Laley23 wrote:

Yes I "KNEW" that I almost put a smiley face after that (which I do so much even I think its silly) but I thought, no everyone will know it was a joke.Laley23 wrote:

I figured as much, just making sure. I sent my initial comment with smileys indicating I was going along with his joke.krambman wrote:

However, he proved NOTHING when Indiana was hiring a coach. In fact, he was terrible for Iowa....why would Indiana go after him.
It isnt like Sampson was a bad hire coaching wise. The guy was on the brink of putting Indiana in the top 10 yearly. -
Scarlet_Fever
This is what I think. Iowa probably should have gave him more time. Also, kind of suprised Indiana has never looked at him but at least that I understand. I think it would be hard to be a legend player and coach at your old school. If you stink as a coach you could lose your legend status.krambman wrote:Laley23 wrote:

True but Sampson was in trouble at his previous school and continued on at Indiana.Laley23 wrote:

I keep telling my grandpa. Gramps look yes Kentucky will get to the Final Four but 3 years later they will have to vacate it. -
Laley23^^^Right, I thought it was a risky hire because of that. But who knew he would really be that dumb to fuck himself over so bad. I mean, most people indeed learn from being busted. Indiana certainly got what the deserved. But I still contend that Indiana would have won a title with Sampson.

TimberI think Indiana wanted to stay away from the Knight connection... and I also think hiring a Big 10 coach from another Big 10 school is kind of frowned upon... an unwritten rule... Like not dating a brother or sisters ex. I was also surprised that Lickliter was fired as well...

Now if they just fire Crean before he gets things going. I really like them being down. It helps Matta.Laley23 wrote: ^^^Right, I thought it was a risky hire because of that. ytownfootballLicklighter had it coming, no doubt with sub par seasons and all the transfers leaving.

lol, Ill tell you what, and Ive been saying it for about 2 years now (when I first watched these kids play) that there is enough talent in Indiana in 2012 for every school in the Big Ten to get 2 of them.Scarlet_Fever wrote:

Im telling you right now, it is the best class I have ever seen come through this state. Not the best player (although, a bunch of studs, just no Eric Gordon, Jared Jeffries, Oden, etc). But this class has about 30 high major players in it. Its just nuts. Literally, could have 15 of them in the top 100 (but sites wont do it). but if Matta and Crean and Izzo and Beilen etc recruit Indiana that year they are all gonna come away with a really good class.
I know Crean is in really good shape with about 15 guys from that class right now. The guy I want the most is Ron Patterson though. I think he will end up being the best based on my evaluations. He is ranked anywhere from 1-5 right now in the state. -

Biggest thing is how far their attendance dropped. I forget the exact number, but it was the lowest ever for them.ytownfootball wrote: Licklighter had it coming, no doubt with sub par seasons and all the transfers leaving. -

Oh wow, never heard that. Yeah that isn't good either. Curious as to their direction. I would think their focus should be on a quality recruiter, not sure what they're willing to pay/who's available, but there are some HIGH quality recruiter in the Big 10 right now. If Iowa has any intentions of competing they need to begin to bring in (and keep) their talent.Laley23 wrote:

Scarlet_FeverWell I was about to say that maybe they'd take a look at Sean Miller. He's had great success at Xavier and has them in the tourney again. Yeah somehow I missed that he took the Arizona job last year. (Needless to say I haven't got to watch a whole lot of basketball outside the B10) Anyway, I think he would have been a good fit. He can recruit and it would have made for interesting story lines with he and Matta. I guess I don't have a suggestion right now.

johngrizzlySteve Alford is laughing somewhere.
-
Azubuike24I believe I said it during the OSU/Iowa game. Lickliter has done nothing at all to improve Iowa. Then you have Steve Alford taking a New Mexico team, led by a JUCO player, to a likely 30-win season and a 3rd seed in the NCAA Tournament.
-
MulvaMaybe go after the in-state guy in Ben Jacobson?
-
darbypitcher22you wonder where they go. I think Lickliter tried to make too big of a jump from Butler to the Big 10 and it fried him in the end

Scott May, Quinn Buckner, Kent Benson..and the rest of that unbeaten team. You must not have been around for that group. All 5 were NBA players.Laley23 wrote:

FootwedgeOne of the worst Iowa teams ever.

No, I wasnt. But it isnt like I dont know about it. But I did say that it didnt have the BEST player...just it was the deepest. Im not the only one who thinks this. People who do this for a living in Indiana have agreed with me as well.Footwedge wrote:

Now, on to why what you said doesnt even make sense:
Kent Benson wasnt in the same class, he was a year behind
Quinn Buckner is from Illinois
Scott May is from Ohio -
jordo212000Uhh??? Steve Alford wasn't fired from Iowa... he resigned.
