Why did Duke receive favorable seed?-Whitlock

Because Georgetown choked. Switch Louisville with Georgetown and see how you feel.ccrunner609 wrote: Ohio State has OU, Tenn and Gtech left in their part of the bracket.................how in teh hell is that not easier then Dukes draw? -
Swamp FoxAfter Ohio's victory over Georgetown, would someone please tell me how anyone can predict which bracket is the toughest? How about Tech over Okla. State, how about Murray State over Vandy, how about Robert Morris coming within an eyelash of eliminating Villanova and on and no and on. I'm beginning to think that every game is a minefield for the favorite and anything and everything may happen before this Tournament runs it's course.

Shit happens. Of course some team or teams might play over their heads (OU) or some team might underachieve(GT).That doesn't change anything. After Ohio's victory over Georgetown, would someone please tell me how anyone can predict which bracket is the toughest? -
reclegend22Of course it doesn't. Not when it's your argument at hand.

Manhattan Buckeye"#1 seeds have lost almost every tournament and I doubt that the location was the primary factor."
First, Kentucky wasn't just a #1 seed, they were THE top 1 seed and got sent to Minneapolis. But generally, so what? That isn't the point, the point is whether Duke got an easy draw vis a vis other top seeds, I made the claim Syracuse had an overall better draw and with 'Nova losing that means Baylor (assuming they get past ODU) may be looming in Houston. If locations weren't a factor no one gripe about teams being sent away from their respective regions, like many folks did this year with Syracuse having the indignity of traveling to SLC, notwithstanding that their first weekend of games is a bus trip. I still stand by my point that Syracuse had a better draw than Duke. -
mattinctownIF Duke makes the Final Four, I certainly won't consider it tainted. They played and beat the teams that were put in front of them. Ohio State had one of the toughest draws when the tournament began, and save a potential matchup with Kansas in the Elite 8, how did that work out? Georgetown lost, and Ok. State lost. I'll make no apologies if Duke makes the Final Four, the fact is they may have to play both Texas A/M and Baylor in Houston, and after looking the Syracuse's draw, I would rather have that than what Duke might have to deal with.
It's the same old shit, if Duke doesn't make the Final Four, then people will say they didn't deserve a 1 seed. If they do make the Final Four, it's because their road was paved and they were supposed to. You can't win being a Duke fan, because people can twist things however it fits THEM. Basically Duke has to win the title every year to silence the haters.
Of course, when OU beats Georgetown and that bracket is weakened, then the response is "shit happens." If it happens in Duke's bracket, well, those teams were overseeded, weak, etc...... -
Prescott
Your point is noted, but I and many of the "experts" I've read and listened to disagree. I'd rather play Baylor in Houston than than K-state in Salt Lake. Why? Because K-State has defeated Baylor twice. I think the opponent is much more critical to success when compared to the venue. You disagree. If you like venue, what if Cuse gets BYU in Salt lake??I still stand by my point that Syracuse had a better draw than Duke.
The point is that it doesn't have to happen in duke's bracket, the committee saw to that. If it does, as it did today with the Nova loss, all the better for duke.If it happens in Duke's bracket, well, those teams were overseeded, weak, etc...... -
reclegend22Give it up, man.
A Duke trip to the Final Four is a trip to the FINAL FOUR BABY. The Final, Four. -
reclegend22If Duke should be so lucky to make it to Indianapolis, NO ONE can take that accomplishment away or taint it in anyway.
-
Prescott
Sure they can and they will. The path they took will be a topic for discussion.NO ONE can take that accomplishment away or taint it in anyway.
I do understand the sense of entitlement that some duke fans have, so I get where you are coming from. -
Manhattan Buckeye"Your point is noted, but I and many of the "experts" I've read and listened to disagree."
You mean like the experts saying Ohio had no chance against G'town?
It isn't all about the regionals, it is getting to the regionals..and 'Cuse had the 2nd easiest draw behind Kansas getting there. I'd put it (in terms of ease) Kansas, 'Cuse, Duke, Kentucky. If any team had an argument, it is Kentucky for having to travel to New Orleans, not that it is that bad of a trip for their fans, and possibly playing Texas (not happening) or a talented but poorly coached Wake Forest team (happening).
Kansas/'Cuse got a gift wrap to the sweet 16. Unless either team completely falls apart there is no way Northern Iowa or Gonzaga sniffs within 10 points of them. Duke had to travel, I'm not sure Cal is THAT great of a team, but restating a point for the millionth time, it matters a lot when you play a home game in the first weekend when 75% of the gym is in your favor, as Kansas and 'Cuse will enjoy this weekend. -
mattinctown
And I do understand that you would bash Duke even if they were seeded #16 and beat three number one seeds to win the title. I could care less what people like you say to me if Duke gets to the Final Four or more. The fact is, they beat the teams that were put in front of them, and anyone that does that deserves to be in the Final Four, no matter what any windbag says.Prescott wrote:

Nah, I would say you don't really understand anything of substance. As far as "entitlement," all I can say is that success breeds haters and contempt. -
Prescott
Why are you posting??I could care less what people like you say to me if Duke gets to the Final Four or more.
And in some cases PREFERENTIAL treatment breeds haters and contempt.all I can say is that success breeds haters and contempt. -
Prescott
You know that point is irrelevant. You mean like the experts saying Ohio had no chance against G'town?
When a #1 is playing a #16 the site and fan makeup doesn't really matter.it matters a lot when you play a home game in the first weekend when 75% of the gym is in your favor, as Kansas and 'Cuse will enjoy this weekend.
You guys have your opinion and I have mine. I think that after Kansas and UK duke is just as capable as any other team of getting to the Final Four. I don't think they needed any help to get there, but,IMO, they got some.We will just agree to disagree. -
Manhattan Buckeye"When a #1 is playing a #16 the site and fan makeup doesn't really matter."
And the second round game doesn't! I don't know if you are intentionally trying to make half-reared arguments or not, but I do know you haven't even sniffed at the notion that 'Cuse had an easier route than Duke notwithstanding all the points I've made in favor of 'Cuse. Have you even mentioned 'Cuse at all? In case you didn't know, the first TWO rounds are in the same location.
Syracuse, without question IMO, has the easiest FULL route to the final 4, regardless that they have to travel to Salt Lake City in the regional, then Duke, then Kansas, then Kentucky. If anyone has an argument about their draw (AGAIN), it is Kentucky, not Duke haters. And certainly NOT Syracuse fans. Don't like being forced out of the East, don't host the regionals and forego the money. -
georgemc80To say that A&M and Baylor would not be a tough game in Houston either shows that you have never been to Houston or don't understand either program.
Baylor fans are numerous in Houston...and are just waiting to fill up Reliant Stadium and make it Waco South...
Same thing for A&M except even more victory starved fans are in and around Houston.
And here is the kicker, both fanbases are generally the wealthier people in Houston so the are going to buy every possible ticket.
I will be the minority in my Duke gear...that is for sure. -
mattinctownThe question is: If Northern Iowa holds off Kansas, Ohio State goes from having one of the hardest regions in history to something very manageable. Will there be a thread about how OSU got the road paved for them, hahaha!
To Prescott: Can you post ANYTHING other than Duke bashing? I'm posting because someone is unfairly bashing my team and I am defending them. If you think Duke playing Texas A&M and Baylor in Houston is preferential treatment, then you apparently know nothing about college basketball. There is a reason there is an ignore button, have fun with your incessant bashing. -
Cleveland Buck
When they paved the road, was it paved without Georgetown, Oklahoma State, and Kansas, or with them?mattinctown wrote: The question is: If Northern Iowa holds off Kansas, Ohio State goes from having one of the hardest regions in history to something very manageable. Cleveland BuckThis will tell you how brutal the Midwest region was. You think any other 8-9 seeds are able to beat their 1 seeds? Nope.
-
Manhattan Buckeye"The question is: If Northern Iowa holds off Kansas, Ohio State goes from having one of the hardest regions in history to something very manageable. Will there be a thread about how OSU got the road paved for them, hahaha"
Exactly. The folks that gripe about the tournament committee year after year need to have a healthy portion of STFU flakes. Few tournaments go according to seedings, there are always upsets and teams that rise to the occasion.
The griping about the tournament seedings is one of the largest matters that grinds my gears. The tournament doesn't happen in a boardroom, you have to play the games. -
Cleveland BuckKansas had the toughest road and couldn't make it through. That doesn't make the road easy for the teams that are left.
-
Cleveland BuckAnd the seeds don't matter. It's the teams that are in the bracket. A bracket with Kansas, Ohio State, Georgetown, Maryland, Michigan State, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Northern Iowa, and Georgia Tech is ridiculous.
-
Manhattan BuckeyeI respectfully think Kentucky had it harder (that's what she said), more travel, a 2 seed on par with Ohio St. and a tougher second round match-up.
-
Cleveland BuckA tougher second round matchup than Northern Iowa? Wake is decent, but Kentucky isn't that good and will beat Wake by 20.
-
Manhattan BuckeyeYeah, a tougher second round matchup than Northern Iowa. Did I miss the day when Kurt Warner took over these boards and declared that Northern Iowa was a team with blue chip recruits and a squad that many people had in the sweet 16?
Nothing against Northern Iowa, I respect the way they played tonight, but who in the world thought they would beat Kansas? I smell a lot of remorse from Jayhawk fans trying to deal. Kansas didn't deliver. Northern Iowa should be proud of what they did and should continue to play tough....but to turn this into an NCAA committee thing? Bush league.
