Oh how far LMU has fallen..

I was watching Bo Kimble pound The Glove and Oregon State for 52 earlier tonight. I have tons of old Lion games on DVD and VHS. Those teams are so damn fun to watch. Wish there were more around like them today.

The fact that I went off on that tangent explains how meaningless the tournaments above are. Haha omg. How pathetic. The College Basketball Postseason Insider.com Tournament? Seriously.

Begin irrelevant rant: Apparently Wright State passed up invites to the CBI and the other tournament after being "jobbed" out of the NIT. It goes without saying that these three tournaments are relatively uninteresting, the NIT included. But for a small school like Wright State, it's a way to get the name out there. They're getting more opportunities to play on national television, as they had a few games on ESPNU and even played Mississippi St on ESPN2 earlier this year. All we hear about is how great it is to get on national television, but then they decline post-season play. I know it costs money, and it's probably economically inefficient. To be honest, the University should fork up the money just so the last game of the season wasn't that blowout to Butler. They're several teams in the tournament that belong to superior conferences than the Horizon that Wright State could have played.
The fanbase around here is excusing it on injuries and just apathy to play in the CBI. This is the second year the team has played nothing but hardcore mediocre and then hope for a longshot entrance into the NIT only to not get there. Perhaps had they not been outscored by like 25 in the second half against Butler the other night they could actually be playing in the tournament.

I'm just not sold on Brad Brownell. He got a lot of credit in 2006-2007 when they owned Butler a few times and made the tournament for the second time ever, but DaShaun Wood CARRIED that team. They haven't had a legitimate, decent scorer since. Since Woods left, he's lost like 7 out of 8 games to Butler? Let's face it: Finishing second in the Horizon League with an unremarkable OOC schedule isn't going to cut it. Then he goes on to say that the Butler team from this season is the best he's ever seen, but the bad loss shouldn't discount them from the NIT. Best team? Shit Brad, what about the teams from 2008 and 2009 that have kicked our ass? What were they then? What about next year's team that brings back senior Matt Howard and a more experienced Hayward? Will you still play a 2-3 zone as Butler shoots 9-14 from behind the arc? When you inevitable lose to them in the tournament, will they be the best Butler team you've ever seen, and then we'll once again be hoping for the NIT?

I don't understand what changes, or how skipping out on the CBI makes sense. Obviously I'm not the financial expert of the school, but Brownell was hoping for postseason play and then declined it. End rant.
