Congratulations Jon Diebler
-
lhs2ndbaseJon became Ohio State's career 3 point record holder today making his 273rd triple. Jamar Butler held the record. Diebler also surpassed 1,000 career points today.
-
Mr. 300Never would have thought about him setting any records.
-
Swamp FoxJon could always shoot the ball. He was incredible in high school. Congratulations to him on this outstanding accomplishment.
-
Swamp FoxYou may be right to a degree, ccrunner, but I'll bet that more than a few of those threes won the Buckeyes some games, and I think we will need him to continue to shoot those big threes today and into the Tournament. I don't think there is any question that he is a role player, but those shots open up things inside and it all is a part of the team approach that Matta has developed.

PrescottI have not been a huge Diebler fan, but he has worked hard and grown as a player. Standstill shooters are important in today's game. Players like Bohanon, Hoffarber, and Diebler are critical components to their team's success.
Diebler will never be a finisher around the basket, but he is learning he can drive and draw fouls. -
devil1197For everyone calling Diebler one dimensional, that one dimension is/will be vital for OSU's tournament run when teams are focused on Turner and Buford.
The only year he struggled shooting was his FR year, but he has shot a clip of 42% from 3 this season and last year. -
NonHe hustles. Even early on in his career when he wasn't as efficient shooting, he played really hard and gave the team a spark that way.
He's had a good, solid career at OSU. -

Agreed, and Deibler is a perfect fit for this team with the rest of the parts they have.Prescott wrote: I have not been a huge Diebler fan, but he has worked hard and grown as a player. Also, I don't think people realize how difficult a transition that Deibler had to go through. This was a player who was used to having the ball in his hands all the time before he came to OSU. That tansition from shooting off the dribble, being a point....to a catch and shoot player running off of screens is NOT easy. He took him a while to adjust...but he is where OSU/Matta needed him to be at this point in his career.
Having seen him play in HS, I never had the unrealistic expectaions that MANY had for him. I honestly thought he would be what he is today for OSU.....a 3pt shooter. And as mentioned above, every good team needs a player like this on the floor to stretch the defense. Turner and Buford wouldn't be quite as effective as they are without Deibler in the floor. They all compliment themselves very well. -

Those who call him "one dimensional" just don't get it.
His role on the team IS that "one" dimension (although I disagree that he lacks other skills).
All Jon Diebler has done at OSU is get better each year, and contribute very key plays to the success of this team.
Now really, what more can you ask from a player?
Not every player is supposed to be able to do it all. To think that is plain stupid. That's why it's a TEAM game. -
QuintDiebler's presence on the court forces the opponent to respect our 3 point shooting; thus, freeing up space for Turner to get to the basket. I like Diebler. He's also hit some big time shots this year.

CinciX12You guys are crazy. Diebler is god! Didn't you hear he scored 70 points in a high school game?!? He sucks in college!
Jon Deibler is EXACTLY what OSU needed him to be and EXACTLY what they expected him to be. No more no less. This team would not be nearly as good without him. -
Ankle BreakerAllow me to come on here and publicly admit that I was wrong about Jon Diebler. I never thought he would make the contribution to the Buckeyes that he is currently making. The mere threat of him hovering around the perimeter makes the others more effective. I have officially served myself up some crow.

Its pretty much like Rush Limbaugh endorsing Obama. You have to stick up for Diebler eventually I guess. The guy needs to shoot 62% to make some people happy it seems like.cbus4life wrote:
