Does Crean Have a Problem With Matta and OSU?

PrescottDoes Crean have a problem with Matta or OSU? It's hard to forget the hurried handshake after OSU's victory in Bloomington.
And now this.

What is his problem? -
MulvaBased on Indiana's team, Crean just has a problem with evaluating talent.

Lol, really??? You know he has recruited ONE class right. That class happens to be pretty damn good. All the players on his team left when he was hired.Mulva wrote: Based on Indiana's team, Crean just has a problem with evaluating talent.
Now, as for the problem with Matta/OSU. Im sure it is going to be overblown, but he clearly has something against them. I think it probably has something to with private matters or something behind the scenes. -
september63I remember when this happened. Laley, if I am not correct, you didnt have a problem with it. You either mention, Creen quick shakes every coach after he loses. You might have said Motta quick shakes everyone after OSU games. Either way, you claimed it wasnt an isolated incident.

I didn't have a problem with the handshake nor thought there was any kind of an issue. Right after a game, coaches can be very emotional. It was obvious Crean was upset/frustrated after getting his ass handed to him yet again.september63 wrote: I remember when this happened. Laley, if I am not correct, you didnt have a problem with it. But now, after this...I think there is obviously something behind the scences, as Laley indicated that we dont' know about.
Lets be honest, Matta reruits Indiana very well. I am sure they have crossed paths in recuiting and maybe something happened.
Its really a shame that Crean has to take whatever issue's he has with Matta, out on a player that. Thats pretty low class. I used to have some decent respect for the guy...and have obviously lost quite a bit with this latest situation. -

No I was saying he does that with a lot of coaches. I think he is a big bitch when he loses and it pisses me off because it isnt how you build leadership qualities with your players. So yes, he has quick shook before with other coaches, so I wasnt led to believe he had anything against Matta. But not voting for Turner, barring a ridiculously good reason, now makes to to lean otherwise.september63 wrote: I remember when this happened. I do not have a problem with the handshake if you are truly mad about something because frankly I want my coach to be hated by a lot of fanbases and other coaches. But it appears since he has done it since and prior that it is a trend that stems from just losing...which does piss me off. -

I am aware that he has only fully recruited one class, and I will agree to disagree about how good it is.Laley23 wrote:

Semi-seriously. I've said several times that I think Crean is a very overrated head coach, certainly not a coach of Indiana caliber, and I really don't see the talent on this team. It was obviously an exaggeration, but I don't think you'll see Indiana competing for a Big 10 title under Crean anytime soon, which is the expectation at IU.SportsAndLady wrote: Seriously? -

The talent doesnt look good right now, but IU is missing their best player. Hulls starting to play very well the last 3 weeks of the year and Elston who couldnt figure out college defense for his life finally did and put up great number his last 3 games. Watford is ueber talented but playing out of position as a 4 this year. He needs to put on weight to play the 4.Mulva wrote:

I just dont think its fair to call his evaluation of talent poor based off of 1 class and a bunch of guys he picked up off the street. The class was rated top 10 nationally. Creek was a top 35 player, Watford was top 50, Elston was top 75 and Hulls was underrated significantly at 100.
Put Creek in this team and they MAY have been competing for a postseason tournament. We will see how good the freshman are next season when they are more seasoned.
As far as Crean as a coach, and whether he is good enough for Indiana....You wont find me disagreeing with anything in your post. As a fan though, I am going to give him until the 2012 class. The re-building project he took on at IU is second to none in the history of college basketball. It was an atrocious situation, and Im willing to give him until his first class is seniors (as well as the fact that 2012 is the first class he wasnt behind the 8 ball recruiting wise). -
thedynasty1998As far as a coach, I've always thought Crean was a really good coach. But I'm starting to reconsider a little. However, I realized the situation he walked into, and you have to give him some more time.
There is obviously something between Matta and Crean, but who cares? Should Crean take it out on Turner? No. But does it really matter? I think it creates more interest into the league and the rivalry when there is some hatred on one side. -
darbypitcher22Crean is still a good coach. He knew what was ahead of him when he got there. I like his attitude, getting close isn't enough, he wants to win and win now. maybe he could back off of that a little bit because of the circumstances he's in.
This has been made into wayy big of a deal -
WriterbuckeyeIndiana is a good enough basketball state that if Crean only gets one or two top talents a year, he's still going to have enough talent to do some damage. Generally speaking, it doesn't take long to turn around a basketball program -- especially not in a state where talent is plentiful.
I see him having success at IU, although I don't know if that success will include multiple league titles or deep runs in the NCAA. Certainly, I see his teams competing for league titles within the next two years.
Having said that, if he's as big a dick as he seems to be, I won't be real disappointed if I'm wrong and he tanks and takes the IU program with him. -
HereticOhio State, Indiana, Marquette, Butler and Xavier are all pretty close proximity-wise, so there's a great chance they've butted heads and had issues.

The AnswerI may have missed it but who did Crean vote for if not Turner?
-
centralbucksfanAnyone else enjoy watching Crean take a second half beating by NW as much as I did yesterday?
-
darbypitcher22No because it was pretty much exepected.

You can't enjoy a beating because it was expected?darbypitcher22 wrote: No because it was pretty much exepected. -
goldengonzoMy best guess is Crean and Matta have crossed paths and situations with recruiting.
