Everything minus the bold is total crap in my opinion, but I wont pretend to be an OSU historian so I couldn't tell you if he is the best Buckeye ever.Writerbuckeye wrote: I've been watching OSU basketball since 1968 and have seen some damn good players in those years -- but Evan Turner may be my favorite Buckeye yet.
He is, by far, the most versatile player I've seen come through Ohio State, as he can post you up, create a three point shot off the dribble, or drive to the basket and dunk over you -- or he may start out doing one of those three and dish off to an open teammate who nails a jumper or puts in a layup.
On top of that, he has handled himself with grace and dignity and has been an excellent representative of the team, the school and the program.
You can't ask for much more than that.
He deserves Player of the Year for his work on the court, and I surely hope he gets it.
I was particularly happy to see him get a Big Ten championship ring (now he and Sammy have a matched set ) because I honestly can't see him passing up the NBA to stay another year -- even though I'd love it.
Thank you, Mr. Turner, for some really, really great memories.
That being said, from a person that still goes to OSU games often to take in what college basketball Ohio has to offer. Thank you Evan Turner, there was never a dull moment when you were in the game. -

Coming from a well known OSU/Matta hater....we don't put much into any of your comments anyway...because they quite frankly, are CRAP as well.CinciX12 wrote:

cats gone wildQuestion for you ET fans. Why should a player who missed 20% of the season win POY? When you dont play for a month/6 games.........you shouldnt win POY.

Hard to disagree with this really...cats gone wild wrote: Question for you ET fans. Why should a player who missed 20% of the season win POY? When you dont play for a month/6 games.........you shouldnt win POY. -

If the stats were close, and OSU had won without him sure.SQ_Crazies wrote:

But Turners stats blow everyone out of the water and it was painfully obvious how bad OSU was without him. That is the definition for POY.
Had Turner missed like 12-15 games, I think it would be a much better argument. -
centralbucksfan
BS. What kind of arguement is that? Him missing a few games...actually is to his benefit as it made people realize just how good he is. Without him, OSU is pretty mediocre. With him, they are a top ten team.cats gone wild wrote: Question for you ET fans. Why should a player who missed 20% of the season win POY? And whats scarey, is that his stats would even be better if he hadn't missed most of the game he was hurt in, on top of coming back a little rusty in the first couple games. -
Big Gain
Because his 80% was better than others 100%?cats gone wild wrote: Question for you ET fans. Why should a player who missed 20% of the season win POY? When you dont play for a month/6 games.........you shouldnt win POY.
Playing 80% of the season Turner still managed to be selected Big Ten Payer of the Week SEVEN times. Has another player, from another conference, playing 100% of his team's games, come close to that number? -
cats gone wildAnd to add to my statement.........
ET plays on a team with not a whole lot of talent. Of course his #'s are going to look good. How about putting him on a team that has a whole cast of good players? John Wall plays with 2 other players who are huge stars. Cousins has double doubles on a consistent basis, while Patterson was one of the best players in the country before these guys even joined the team. And.....Wall has to share guard duty with a player that has played the same position as Wall all his life (Bledsoe). Wall missed one game, ET missed a whole month. When games come to the wire, Wall is always there to answer on offense and defense. I dont watch OSU, so I dont know if ET does the same or not. -

Jon Diebler, William Buford, and David Lighty all average 12+ PPG.cats gone wild wrote: And to add to my statement.........

Demarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson each average 15+ for Kentucky while Eric Bledsoe averages 10+.
The next highest scorer for each team averages about 6-7 PPG.
Kentucky averages 80 PPG while Ohio State scores 73.5.
Fact is, literally every expert has Turner as POY. I'd have no problem with Wall winning it but it won't happen. Both are great players. -

You cant go by averages for these teams. Do you really want to compare UK's players with OSU's or depth of talent?cview wrote:

Your knowledge of exemptions is no better than your knowledge of Turner. -
AutomatikIt's very likely that Turner will be the unanimous POY, yet cats is still hating. Shocker!!

I was saying OSU's players vs. UK's players arent comparable. If you want to talk about POY averages then why cant Houston's Aubrey Coleman win the POY award?ytownfootball wrote: You can't go by averages why? Because you say so? Are you fucking retarded? I never said OSU had the same type of players Kentucky does. You said Wall has to share the wealth with a bunch of other guys while Turner might not, which is simply untrue as both teams have four guys(including Wall and Turner) in double figures and another guy or two that picks up the loose change. It's not like Ohio State is a bubble team and Evan Turner is playing with a bunch of rec center scrubs and he gets to chuck nonstop. Like I said...Jay Bilas, Hubert Davis, Digger, Dickie V, Fran Fraschilla, Steve Lavin, etc all have Turner as their POY and being an expert in the area is part of their job description.cats gone wild wrote:

detectivegibblesAnd Turner averages more assists, which means he is passing to people who are making shots. Just saying.
Take of the blinders...
If John Wall were to get hurt tomorrow and miss the NCAA tourney, Kentucky still goes to the elite 8. OSU without turner, hell the selection committee probably doesn't even invite them. -
SQ_Crazies
Agree with this, which is why I said a long time ago this team won't make it past the Sweet 16, maybe not even to it--they'll be a popular upset pick in the 2nd round.detectivegibbles wrote:

Yeah I agree with this. His argument would work for a player like Stephon Curry last year who put up huge numbers because no one on his team was any good so he had to do all the scoring (could also make the argument for the Houston player that HE brought up lol)...but you can't make that argument for Turner, his teammates are solid enough to prove just how good he is.cview wrote: Are you fucking retarded? Thats all I need to read to realize how ridiculous your statements are.cats gone wild wrote: . I dont watch OSU, so I dont know if ET does the same or not.
But to clarify a few things....the BEST player, and MVP of UK...IMO, is Cousins.
Secondly, Wall always there? I watched him CHOKE vs one of the FEW quality teams he played against....Tenn last week. Turnovers and poor decision making by Wall cost UK late in that game.
OSU has no talent? LOL Ya...Ok.. a top 10 team with only 1 player. LOL
Oh, and lastly, Turner plays in a MUCH tougher conference, the Big Ten, then what Wall does in the SEC. And its not even close.
Mark this down...Turner will win the POY and it won't be that close. -

Why should a player who missed 20% of the season win POY? Turn on ESPN and you will hear a plethora of reasons why he is without a doubt going to receive this honor.cats gone wild wrote: Question for you ET fans.
