Bubble Watch Games: 2/27/2010
-
Azubuike24A great slate of games today, here are the ones to watch:
Notre Dame 78, (12) Georgetown 64 - The Irish are now legit NCAA hopefuls after beating Pittsburgh and Georgetown this week.
Mississippi 76, Alabama 73 - A double-digit second half deficit overcome by Kennedy's Rebs as they keep their NCAA hopes alive. They host LSU on Thursday and travel to play the mightily falling Arkansas Razorbacks next weekend.
(8) West Virginia 74, Cincinnati 68 - The Bearcats still host Nova and go to Georgetown, and they must now win both. It was going to be tough, but now it's almost impossible.
California 62, Arizona State 46 - Cal puts a strangle-hold on the Pac 10 title, and ASU is dealt a crushing blow..
Georgia 78, Florida 76- The Gators now have Vandy at home and at UK to finish things off. Lose both of those, they are definitely sweating, and would lose the 3rd seed in the SEC Tourney to Tennessee, which means an opponent not-named LSU, who is probably the only sure-fire win in the league.
Minnesota 62, Illinois 60 - Minnesota is definitely a bi-polar team, and so is Illinois for that matter. The Gophers hold off another furious comeback and get a W here. Made up for blowing one against Purdue the other night.
Oklahoma State 85, Kansas 77 - OSU is always tough at home, and even though they stormed the court like chumps, this win locks an NCAA bid for them. Impressive win for Travis Ford.
Charlotte at George Washington - Charlotte is in trouble after faltering as of late, and GW played them to a 4-point loss in Charlotte earlier in the year. A game the 49ers should win, but it won't be easy, and the way they are playing, a loss would be a dagger.
Mississippi State at South Carolina - MSU is at 8-5 in the SEC, still play Tennessee at home and can win the SEC West with another win. With that said, USC is dangerous at home as we saw them beat UK earlier in the year.
Other Bubble Teams In Action
Georgia Tech 73, Boston College 68
UAB 76, Tulane 55
St. Bonaventure 81, Rhode Island 74 ***UPSET***
UNLV 77, Air Force 47
UMass at Dayton
Tulsa at East Carolina
Southern Mississippi at Memphis
Duquesne at St. Louis -
Prescott
I think we are guilty of east coast bias when it comes to these two teams. I agree that the PAC-10 is not good, but I've watched these teams a couple of times each and they can play with many of the teams that are projected to be solid entrants in the tournament.Arizona State at California - Both teams are probably going to have to win the Pac 10 Tournament, but both are technically on the bubble as well. Enough so to count it as a bubble game non-the-less.
FYI, The New Mexico at BYU game will be televised on VERSUS CHANNEL. -
slingshot4everLooks like a good list to me. I am interested to see how KU plays on the road against a time fighting for a pot in the tourney

Azubuike24That may be true regarding ASU/CAL, and I'm starting to think the selection committee is going to bail the Pac 10 out with 2 bids, but lets be honest, nobody really wants to win that league. Both of those teams are the best it has to offer, and each is going to finish with likely 6 league losses. Can we really take any of the teams seriously when the top team in the league finishes with 6 losses, and the league has a bunch of average or worse teams?
The 3rd place team, Washington, the pre-season favorite, is 1-6 in true road games. Stanford and Washington State, picked by most to finish 9th and 10th in the league, both might finish at .500. Pre-season top 3 pick, Oregon, is going to finish last, and Oregon State, picked by many to finish in the top half, is going to finish 2nd to last. Just a crazy year in the Pac 10, but crazy in today's college basketball world can be bad, and that's what 2009-10 has been for this conference. -
Azubuike24How bad is Luke Harangody? Who knows, but ND is AMAZING without him. They are about to beat Georgetown. 67-54 ND, in DC, under 2 minutes left.
-
MulvaGeorgia Tech managed to turn a 12 point lead with 20 seconds left into a 5 point win and not cover the -7.5 spread. Way to be, guys.
-
MulvaRhode Island down 10 at half to St Bonaventure. Their at large hopes are circling the drain.
-
MulvaOle Miss gets a big win over Bama.
Wake about to lose it's 3rd straight, with the last 2 coming to NC State and UNC. Crushing blows for NCAA hopes. Unless they pull the comeback here (down 5 with 1 minute left), they'll probably needs to win @ Florida State AND beat Clemson to feel good.
Rhode Island loses to St. Bonaventure. They are now on the outside looking in, and the A-10 might be down to a 3 bid league. -
Azubuike24Yeah, URI, Charlotte and Dayton have all faltered. Wake I'd say is still pretty safe. Updated the scores, a very interesting afternoon thus far.
-
MulvaIllinois has 14 points at half. That is absolutely embarrassing.
24-14 Minnesota. -

Not very well at this point. Down 16 in the 1st half.slingshot4ever wrote: Looks like a good list to me. I am interested to see how KU plays on the road against a time fighting for a pot in the tourney -
slingshot4everKU blows today and OSU is playing their best game of the past 4 years.
-
MulvaIllinois is making a ridiculous comeback. They can't miss from 3 right now.
-
Azubuike24Georgia beats Florida by 2. Some bad execution on a chance to win it for UF at the end. Gators I'd say are still in, but they aren't making it easy with Vandy and UK next week.
-
MulvaIllinois missed a game tying shot at the buzzer. McCamey fouling out really hurt them. Not a good look at the end.
-
gorocks99Minnesota wins out and gets one in the tourney they're in. @ Michigan and home against Iowa are do-able, the win in the tourney may be asking a lot.
-
Crimson_Streakif ND can get to 500 in the conference and win a game in the big east tourney they should get in. they have played great basketball these last 2 game hopefully when gody comes back they can keep attacking the basketball and hitting the outside shot
