Forcier's promise

  • FatHobbit
"I am going to get (my teammates) to a bowl game," he told the Detroit News. "If it means spending 10 hours in film this week, then I am going to do it. But we are going to get them to a bowl game."

I'll never understand how these players don't understand what a bad idea this is. It seems like every year someone opens there mouth before the game.

Nothing wrong with being positive... but OSU's defense doesn't need extra motivation.
  • Hamp89
I don't see anything wrong with this.

How can you NOT see anything wrong with this!?!?! Where is the foresight in this statement?

What is their record...5-5? 5-4? What kind of bottom-of-the-barrel bowl game are going to ascend to IF THEY DO win this Saturday?

Then, maybe worse yet, they'll have the misfortune of losing to some MAC school and then things will REALLY be bad for RichRod. God forbid you try to go btter than 2-12 for the month of October!!!

It'd be better to focus on the task at hand, talk about the task at hand and take one game at a time.

Hey, but whatever. It's the state up north.

He should have worded it slightly different.

"I am going to do everything I can to help get (my teammates) to a bowl game,"

Clearly you are in way over you're head here. I would agree that 99% of what you said here is idiocy.

    First off, they are 5-6.

Second, who cares what bottom-of-the-barrel bowl game they would end up in, it's still a bowl game! If you were a player on Michigan's team, wouldn't you rather play in the Little Ceasar's Pizza Bowl the day after Christmas rather than staying home and watching all the bowl games? Albeit, the game is in Detroit, but it's still a bowl game!

Third, he is focusing on the task at hand. It's the last game of the season and you need to win it to become bowl eligible. And they are taking it one game at a time, he's saying that they need to win this next game to play in a bowl game. His statement is the definition of focusing on the task at hand and taking it one game at a time.

Honestly, I really don't have an issue with this. He's not doing something stupid like guaranteeing a win, he's saying that he's going to do whatever it takes to win this Saturday and get his team to a bowl. Sure, it may not have been the smartest thing in the world to say, but I can't fault a guy for coming out and being confident and wanting to win a game over his rival.

More players need to be like this.
  • Foul Tip
How much time is the Michigan defense going to spend in the film room this week?
  • derek bomar
    No Way

I have no problem with his confidence, but this is why most coaches will not allow their Freshmen to speak to the media--but then again,DickRod isn't most coaches

For his sake lets hope he doesn't get hit so hard on Saturday that he wakes up on Rice's campus.
  • Skin_Man
Might win more games at Rice!

He probably shouldn't have opened his mouth. I don't really see the problem here, but it will almost certainly end up on Ohio State's bulletin board.

It was a defacto guarantee. They're not bowl eligible now, so obviously the only way for them to get there is by beating OSU.

Michigan will NOT beat Ohio State. Forcier has a lot to learn, this isn't the 1800's this is the era of Tressel. Michigan is now a perennial big ten bottom feeder while Ohio State is a team that contends for National Titles year after year and you can take that to the bank.

    Also, remember Mike Hart? 0-4
  • devil1197
    Sounds like Mike Hart.

Should have worded it different, I have a feeling that Heyward and Gibson will be waiting to see Forcier.
  • dwccrew
What bowl game will they be in? They will be 5-7 after Saturday, that's not bowl eligible. I thought UM was an elite academic institution? This kid is not smart! ;)

In seriousness, he is providing some great bulletin board material for OSU. Not a good idea, he'll be running for his life from Gibson and Heyward.

unless OSU just totally shits the bed in Ann Arbor, I can't see this happening.

I didn't know Mike Hart had an extra year of eligibility? Apparently tradition isn't the only thing that doesn't graduate... or is imbecilic mouthing off considered tradition? I duno... I just ask the questions.

I thought that Michigan wouldn't be bowl eligible even if they win Saturday (not likely) because their win over Delaware state did not count for eligibility?? (Since they were D2 or whatever they are calling it now)
  • Tully Blanchard
Wasnt this same kind of talk going on before the Purdue game about how they had no chance and Ohio State was going to blow them out?
  • vball10set
^^^wtf are you talking about? this is about Forcier's "promise" of beating the Buckeyes

Fans saying something, and the starting quarterback saying something are two completely different things

Yeah. I forget sometimes that college football didn't start until 2001.

You are allowed to count 1 win over a D1-AA school towards your bowl eligibility.
  • jordo212000
Mental midget? haha that makes me laugh.

I really don't think that any Purdue players were trolling message boards and saying "crap this message board based out of Ohio thinks that Ohio State is going to win big, we'll show them!"

The problem arises when somebody on an actual team says something that is quoted. Because we all know that players are the ones who determine the outcome of the game. Not jordo212000 or Tully Blanchard or whoever else...
