Things That Shouldn't Have Happened

  In last night's loss to Purdue there were critical events that should never have happened. How many can you remember??
  
  1.Lauderdale's lackadaisical pass after OSU got a stop on the first possession of the 2nd half. The pass was stolen and the ball was dunked.
  
  2. As OSU was figghting to get back i n the game Jon Diebler, OSU's best free throw shooter missed the front end of a one and one.
  
  3.I don't remeber exactly when it happend, but Turner apparently thought he had rebound all to himself. Much to his surprise, Jujaun Johnson stole that rebound and the possession.

  Missing front ends are BRUTAL to your teams chances. But missing a shot shouldnt go in this category. It wasnt for a lack of concentration/effort as the other two you mentioned.

  Biggest key in the game, was at the 8 min mark, OSU trailed by 2 pts, 48-46...and had I believe 4 possesions to tie or take the lead. They took quick long range shots on at least two of those. Purdue then scored, and OSU went another 4 possessions (8 total) as Purdue pushed the lead back up to 8pts.
  I really believe if OSU could have tied, or taken the lead...it would have been a huge emotional lift, as well as the crowd going crazy. They just couldn't get over the hump.

  How do you know why missed? Maybe, it was a lack of concentration. I'm not knocking Diebler, but 90% free throw shooters should make critical free throws/

  Honestly, I'm a huge fan, but I just don't see it as anything other than not making shots. It' isn't like the Bucks had a gangload of blocked shots, well defended/contested shots, or a bunch of inneffective trips to the rim, they had o ton of open looks that didn't fall. Period.
  
  Credit Purdue for rendering Lauderdale a worthless component, they're a solid defensive team, without him as an option and poor shooting on our part and we'll not likely come out of that one with a W.

  Centralbucksfans comments were the biggest key. Down by just two and we kept throwing up 3s as soon as we crossed mid court. Drive the lane!!!!! We didn't convert on like 4 straight possesions and Purdue took it back to an 8 pt lead.
  
  The original posters three were all key as well. I will also throw in the foul on the made 3.

  With all due repsect to Lauderdale, being an asset on offense is the exception and not the norm. His season's resume includes many games where his offensive contributions can be counted on one hand.
  
  I am not saying that the plays I listed determined the outcome of the game. They were puivotal in trying to sieze momentum. I am sure there are other plays which fit this criteria.

  Not just including his point total but his boards as well, he's anything but dominant I agree, but he was not effective in even causing a distraction. He got boxed out, wasn't the shot blocker he's been all season, as wasn't an option inside. I just thought Purdue handled him pretty well, something a lot of other teams haven't done as effectively.

  Playing the whole first half with only 4 players on the court. As ET mentioned in the paper someone showed up tonight not ready to play. Wonder who that was. (44)?

  I remember the exact sequence.
  
  OSU was down 48-46. After a couple long shots, Buford finally found a wide open 3 point look to take the lead. He misses the shot and Purdue gets the rebound. They go down and Johnson gets a And 1.
  
  OSU went from being up 1 to down 5.

  If you want to use math use this formula. Missing the front end of a one and one costs a team two points, not one point.

  Expecting a make and getting a miss is completely different from a player throwing a pass to the other team though. I just cant make that correlation.
  
  While live action play is different do you have the same thoughts when a 40% 3pt shooter goes 3/10 on the night? Critical FTs are missed all the time, by the best FT shooters. Robbie Hummel missed 2 the other night in Bloomington (1 with 4 seconds to go).
