http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Latest-Gator-arrest-begins-countdown-to-annual-d?urn=ncaaf,219707While you were jogging, making breakfast, getting ready for church or catching a few extra winks Sunday morning, Florida defensive tackle Gary Brown -- a top-ranked, blue-chip recruit in 2009 expected to move into the Gators' defensive tackle rotation this fall after a redshirt year -- reportedly wasn't about to let the party die just because of a little sunlight, according to the Orlando Sentinel:
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brown, 19, at 7:23 a.m. after his open hand struck the face of a woman trying to kick people out of a party, according to the police report. Another woman intervened and got scratched by Brown as he attempted to slap her arms away, according to the report.
The party took place at The Crossing at Santa Fe apartments on NW 83rd Street in Gainesville. Brown spent all of Sunday in Alachua County Jail, likely awaiting Monday morning’s first appearance in front of a judge. His bond is set at zero.
[...]
The co-defendant on Brown’s police report faces a felony charge of larceny grand theft of a fire extinguisher. An Alachua Sheriff’s Office clerk said the extinguisher was allegedly used to spray people.
The alleged dawn rampage earned Brown two counts of misdemeanor battery and an indefinite suspension from team activities; neither woman required medical attention (though if the account is accurate I wouldn't mind buying the second girl, who apparently entered the fray after a 280-pound defensive tackle allegedly slapped the
The Alachua County Jail is getting efficient with Gator mug shots -- Brown is at least the 27th Florida player to face misdemeanor or felony charges for various offenses since Urban Meyer took over in 2005. Quite a few of those charges -- most recently, against offensive lineman Carl Johnson and cornerback Janoris Jenkins in separate cases last year -- were eventually dropped after their well-publicized arrests. As with all accusations, the charges against Brown could very well meet the same fate. But as we hit the slow season on the college football beat, my guess is the next round of those finger-wagging "Program Out of Control?" pieces are only a felony away.
Of course, Urban can put off the "vacation" thing if they need him to hang around a little longer. He doesn't mind. Really. If, you know, the media starts calling around with tough questions or Steve Addazzio doesn't feel comfortable doling out discipline in the interim role or whatever, just pick up the phone ... OK, seriously, Meyer's back. Let's get to work. -

gibby08And this is Urban Meyer's fault how??
This is the reason why I was always againist him taking a leave of absence. The players are going to run all over Steveie A until Urbs gets back. -
j_crazythis is the reason why urban is taking a leave IMO. he can't deal with how thuggish these kids are. I think that's why he and Timmy were so close because they valued the same things and Tim was a good kid.

Speedofsand27 is wrong, its more like 23 now, with a few being the same player more than one charge or second offense, for which they were kicked off the team. Most charges were dropped, and among all those arrests is throwing paper cups, throwing a sandwich, made up stories by ex girlfriends, etc. Anything serious was disciplined. Players have been kicked off the team and suspended. Some of the arrests were Zook's recruits too. Some of them are so minor the cop wouldn't waste his time, but they always arrest a jock if given the chance. Jenkins was jumped by 4 or 5 guys leaving a club. They went for his necklace chain. When the cop saw it and said 'stop', they all ran. But Jenkins stopped and stood up for the truth and got arrested for 'affray'. It was self defense against 4 guys ! GPD and UFPD both suck. Both full of corruption.
Well publicized arrests, then charges dropped because the cops should not have cuffed them. Happens all the time, but when the football team is #1 its big news for fans of other teams. Its news when Florida suspends a player for drunk driving, but not news when OSU does nothing to punish player(s) for drunk driving. -
vball10set^^^LOL---the spin doctor is alive and well
-
darbypitcher22OSU has plenty of unpublicized, internal discipline that they dole out when players break the law....
-
tcarrier32its not meyers fault, but i will that that it looks like this guy needs to get taken to the woodshed.
-
lhslep134Vball, he's not spinning anything. It's well known that the GPD has a vendetta against Gators players, and it's really no different than what happened with Mike Adams (publicized arrest, then dropped charges), except it's happened a lot more frequently.

FatHobbitI never understand why anyone wants to point fingers at another program when this kind of stuff happens and pretend like it doesn't go on everywhere. Kids are dumb and they do dumb things. The legal system will take care of this and life goes on.

vdubb96I wondered how long it would take for someone to bring up Ohio State. Didn't take long at all!!!

Strapping Young LadIt's easy to see why when someone like Tebow comes along the media fawns over him....As much as I too am tired of hearing about TT, a guy who can play and doesn't act like an ass in the process is harder and harder to come by these days.
-
bucks36Uh-oh. He will probably be suspended for the 1st 2 plays from scrimmage for the Miami (OH) game.
