Thursday's game just became even bigger for Syracuse. The Orangemen will need the win over Georgetown to remain in the front running for a No. 1 seed. Although I still like them as a my national title favorite right now, every loss in late February into March means the world in terms of NCAA seeding. With Georgetown, Nova and a game at Louisville still on the horizon, as well as the Big East Tournament, the Orangemen are battling for the one seed every time out. No losses are affordable now. That's a given.
Not to mention the Big East title is on the line. Right now it's a two way race with Nova. Things should be both interesting and entertaining down the home stretch. I'm looking forward to watching it (as long as none of these games are taking place before a Duke contest).
The Hoyas are so, so unpredictable. They came up huge against Duke, then fell flat the next night out against South Florida, in D.C. Then they take it to one-loss Villanova and look to make a run at the Big East title. That's followed by a near loss against bottom feeder Providence and then a loss to Rutgers. Georgetown has to be the most inconsistent team in the country. They can be very, very good, or very, very average.
I think Syracuse comes back and takes the victory. But I'll be cheering for Georgetown -- and Duke -- as a top seed is on the line.
