ironman02Carolina was VERY overrated coming into this season. The experts put way too much confidence in a bunch of freshmen and a couple role players who were "expected" to become stars. That said, this team should be much better than it is. The guys haven't done a good job of learning, executing, and playing hard every night. Coach Williams hasn't done a good job of finding a way to reach them and make them fully understand what they need to be doing to win. He has openly admitted that he hasn't done a good enough job with this year's team, and I'm sure he's trying his best to fix that. This is a team with Top 15 talent and they have greatly underachieved to this point. The season isn't over yet, but if things don't change right now, it might as well be. We'll see what happens, I suppose.
Also, Carolina probably does get everyone's best shot, just as Kansas and the other top programs do. You can add to that fact that teams see a vulnerable Carolina squad and they're even more aggressive against them because the intimidation factor has worn off. It's the responsibility of the guys wearing the jerseys that say "North Carolina" on them to match the intensity and energy level of the opponent, and they haven't been doing that. Talent, especially when it's inexperienced talent, does not equal wins without execution and heart. -

I personally think the program is in better hands with Self. The fact that he had stated the previous year that he would never leave for Carolina only to leave the following year actually made me glad he left.karen lotz wrote: it seems ole slingshot still has an issue with Roy leaving his beloved jayhawks. -

So now you are saying Williams is the best coach career wise??? Better than Wooden, Smith, etc.? He isn't even top 5 all time on my list.LTrain23 wrote: Some people are never able to get over a bitterness of a coach leaving..
As for your comment about me voting Roy for coach of the year? Nah.. However, coach of the year isn't an award for the best coach career wise...
Mike Brown just won the coach of the year in the NBA, and while he's a very good coach, he's not the best.. Would you agree?
Stupid comparison on your part, though I wouldn't expect anything less from you..
Roy has 2 national titles since going to UNC. Self has 1 at KU. 2 > 1, no?
You are correct, Roy has more national championhips, he is also 10-15 years older than Self. If you are just judging by national championships does that mean Donovan from Florida is as good as Williams and better than any other coach this past decade??? I didn't think so.
As a Cavs fan, I have never liked Mike Brown. LeBron is paying his salary. -
reclegend22I think hoops knows that Roy isn't the best coach of all-time. I doubt that's what he was referencing.
Knight, Rupp, Allen, Smith, Krzyzewski, Wooden, Iba and arguably Rick Pitino are all better career coaches than Roy Williams, IMO. Williams might have since edged out Pitino, but Pitino was pretty damn special at one time. Had he stayed at UK in the late '90s, I'm not so sure he's isn't right on Krzyzewski's level numbers-wise, if not better. That's something coming from a Duke fan.
