Duke v. Georgetown
-
swamisezHuge game for the Devils. Chance to get a road victory against a power conference. 1-0 versus Big East so far, hoping to make it 2-0 and help in the effort to get a top seed.
GTown have a big three as well, Monroe, Freeman, and Vaughn.
Should be a great atmosphere, DC is getting pounded with snow, those inside should enjoy a good game. -
reclegend22Behind the leadership of Greg Paulus and the athletic power of Gerald Henderson, Duke was able to control its game versus Georgetown the entire 40 minutes in Cameron last season. This year, the Blue Devils are obviously without both standouts and on the road in the Verizon Center. It will definitely be a challenging experience, but that's what you want to get out of these late season out-of-conference games against power opponents.
We will need another huge game out of our big three and a terrific defensive effort from our combination of big men to at least temper Monroe's productivity inside. Miles and Kyle are going to have to have a big day maneuvering the paint on D. Monroe was pretty much a non-factor last year as a result of foul trouble, including a technical he earned after spouting off to the official. I don't expect that to be the situation today. He's going to come out swinging.
I think Duke comes out strong shooting the ball in this one and takes a close victory back to Carolina. But this game still scares me. The Hoyas are tough in D.C. -
reclegend22With this win, and a Kansas loss in the Octagon of Doom, I might be inclined to say Duke is back in position to earn a one seed. As of now, it's clear that Kentucky, Syracuse and Nova are lock ones (just for now, at present time). And since I don't see UK losing back to back games, especially considering the Vandy game is in Rupp, I see this being how the day plays out. I like K-State to pull off the win over the Jayhawks tonight.
I also think that with a win at Georgetown, on the road in what many are calling once again the best conference in basketball, and with pummeling victories already secured over UConn and Gonzaga, Duke will have done enough to make its way back into the top four seeds (again, as of right now).
This will all change obviously. But a win today is a must for Duke to be in the consideration. -
Trueblue23GAME TIME!! Let's go Dukies!
-
Trueblue23Obama in the house.
-
killer_ewokGood luck to the Hoyas. Always root for Big East teams out of conference.
-
reclegend22I guess I didn't realize Monroe was playing so much on the perimeter this season. I like the matchup with Lance out there, though undersized.
Wow, rec, you're predictions we're spot on. Duke definitely came out blazing from mid-range and beyond. -
karen lotzSloppy play from Duke, they are starting to remind me this year's Carolina with the careless turnovers. Georgetown is also looking pretty good.
-
HuskersGeorgetown has to feed the ball to Monroe on the block because Thomas is to small to guard him down there.
-
karen lotzagreed. Monroe is a beast. Anyone see the odd shade of purple that Verne's face turned when he was asking Obama about going to the right? I thought he was gonna pass out.
-
osu99Are we sure the Prez is there? I haven't seen him much on TV, especially when they are cutting to commercial.
-
RiverRat13Duke starting to get worked here late in the 2nd half. But this is still the type of game that will make Duke better in the long run.
-
HuskersGeorgetown is putting this ass whipping away. Great job today by my Hoyas, way to rebound after the beating the Cuse gave them on Monday.
-
reclegend22The Duke team that was out there today should play its next game in their t-shirts. They don't deserve to wear that uniform. I've never been more angry watching a team continually give backside/backdoor/driving lay-ins without a fucking stop. All day. Pardon the language, but I'm just glad this one is over.
Duke didn't capitalize ONCE today on any positive play that it did have on the offensive end. This is the worst defensive effort I've seen in a long while. At least since the Clemson game a year ago. I'd say it's worse.
Now, this performance isn't indicative of this team's true ability, but we flat out sucked today. I hope K runs their assess into the floorboards this coming week. -
karen lotzrec, it happens. Be glad it wasn't a ACC or NCAA tourney game. They might have lost out on a 1 seed but that is about it.
-
september63Scheyer once again disappears against a more physical style of play.
-
reclegend22This team, as I've said all season, is a Sweet 16 team. And I still believe that. I do believe they have the potential there to be more than that, but they won't reach it. I'm seeing too much of the same old.
Today was inexcusable. Why? Because we just got completely dropped at State less than two weeks ago. The Pack kicked the shit out of us, and then got the shit kicked out of them by UNC, at RBC. Unacceptable for a team like Duke to play like this twice in four games, a team that's expected to win the ACC and vying for a top NCAA seed.
Book that defensive effort today as the worst Duke's had in three seasons. -
PrescottDamn!!!! I missed a great game.
Did duke give up dribble penetration all game? How did their bigs do against Monroe? -
reclegend22Monroe sliced and diced -- both scoring and passing -- Duke all game long. Yes, you missed what surely would have made you wince in pain you would have been so teary-eyed with joy.
Congratulations on the Duke loss, ahdonis. -
slidepieceIt was absolutely amazing to watch duke play as poorly on the defensive end as they did today. The Hoyas were dpoing anything they wanted to against seemingly little resistance from the devils. Watching them last Tuesday give up big points at NC State and allowing Georgetown to shoot over 70% today is a bad omen for sure. I thought duke was trying to hang their hats on their defense. Hopefully they play that kind of defense in Chapel Hill in a few weeks.
And I think we can put the duke consideration for a #1 seed to bed. Even if they win the ACC regular season (which according to some means about as much as winning a free cheeseburger at McDonalds) and the ACC Tournament, they simply won't have enough quality wins with the ACC lacking a top 10 team this year.
Kansas, Cuse, UK, & Nova are starting to pull away from the rest of the field with a little over a month remaining. -

Duke doesn't deserve a No. 1 seed, IMO, but this is a ridiculous thought for anyone who actually believes it. The ACC is the second toughest conference in the country behind the Big East. There may not be three heavyweights like there have been in the past, but top to bottom, pound for pound, there are a lot of very good basketball teams.slidepiece wrote:Even if they win the ACC regular season (which according to some means about as much as winning a free cheeseburger at McDonalds)
If those who are making the cheeseburger comparison are doing so in reference to the ACC first place cloth award which means "unofficial cloth award finisher," then I agree. Because the ACC Tournament is where the only real champion is crowned. But the ACC isn't a cupcake conference. That's ridiculous. There is just a lot of parity within it and a lot of very dangerous teams. I think the ACC gets seven in the Dance. When comparing that with the Pac 10, which is only going to get one in if lucky, that's pretty damn impressive. Only the Big East, based purely on the sheer volume of teams in the conference, will get more. -
swamisezWhy in the heck did duke try to man up a team who runs a Princeton offense and possesses athletes far better than them. I feel this is what would happen if they stayed in man against uk ku Syracuse or any other team in the top 5. Need a little zone d to negate the lack in athleticism
-
september63Pac 10 will get 3 teams in the NCAA Tourney. For you to suggest they will be lucky to get 1 is ridiculous!!
-
reclegend22swami,
Exactly. Also, what happened to Singler and Scheyer's ability to hold on to the ball. These two alone constituted for what seemed like 10 TO's, whether directly or indirectly -- tripping and falling over, passing it away, etc. Not sure what is going on.
I'm just now cooling off. Took a long mid-day sleep, though. -
reclegend22
That's not what the analysts at CBS think. They say PAC 10, 1. And I might agree. We'll have to see how things play out.Pac 10 will get 3 teams in the NCAA Tourney. for you to suggest they will be lucky to get 1 is ridiculous!!
