No Gonzaga? Best team in the west, or one of the top 2 are they not?

Gonzaga is solid, but they it has been proven over and over again that Bouldin struggles against athletic guards who can pressure him. If Bouldin struggles, the Zags struggle.

Something to keep in mind for this year though is the pod seeding. The Zags could end up with a fairly easy road to the elite 8 if they continue to play well an win. With no Pac-10 team a threat, you will likely have Kansas or Texas as the #1 seed in the West. I would venture to guess the Zags could get all the way up to a 3 seed (based on the pod, not because the seed is deserved). That could really go along way, especially if Kansas/Texas are knocked out.

I agree. I have seen Gonzaga play a few times this year. I think they have a nice team. But I don't see them as a threat to make the final four this year.

The talent level at Duke has really dropped recently. I am a North Carolina fan and yes they have talent just not to many boys able to physically man up for 40 minutes against the big boys right now. That being said thier is something about Syracuse and Villanova that i like. Texas and Kansas are good but im not sure if they could d-up villanova for 40 minutes maybe not even Syracuse.

The West also has a host site in Spokane. The Zags intentionally only played 1 game there this year (versus many in past year) so they would be eligible to play in that bracket (if you play 3 or more, it's considered a home site and you can't be sent there). Losing to San Francisco tonight hurts, they probably had to win out or come very close to get a #2 seed, but even at something like a 4 or 5, the Zags could be a very tough opponent if they go to Spokane. That would be 2 home games to the sweet 16.

Yeah, I think for a 2 seed they needed to win out. They dont have the non conference wins to point to like they have had in previous years. I still think a 4 seed is within reach...but that pits them against Kansas in the Sweet 16. I think they needed Kansas/Texas to be eliminated in that round and play the underdog team in the Elite 8 to have a shot.

Kansas has held something like 50 straight opponents to less than 50% from the field. If there's one thing Bill Self can do, that's get his players to play defense.

I do about Texas though. Their defense is just lousy and is a serious threat to their title run.

Actually to be correct, I believe Tennessee might have shot over 50% from the field this year against KU, but nonetheless it's a great stat.

I meant no disrespect to Kansas by no means. They are a really good team I just dont know if they have the scorers. Sherrod collins is a beast but other than that who on the team can get thier own shot on a consistent basis.

Well Cole Aldrich in the post for starters...that's a given. Marcus Morris has been an absolute beast in Big 12 play, leading the team in scoring..so yeah, definitely Marcus Morris. Xavier Henry, well you're not gonna be a lottery pick if you can't create your own shot. Tyshawn Taylor has struggled this year, but has picked it up as of late, and is really getting to the basket, especially late in the game last night with 2 big drives to the basket that resulted in points. They have 2 three point specialists in Morningstar and Reed who can shoot as well as anyone in the country from beyond the arc.
