Scores & Discussion From Around The Country (1/20/2010)

Azubuike24Figured I'd get some discussion going tonight and will throw out a few topics of my own.
Charlotte 71, Richmond 59 - Both teams fighting for position in the tough Atlantic 10 and the 49ers get the win on the road. It's likely going to come down to Xavier, Dayton and Temple for the A-10 crown, but watch out for Charlotte, Rhode Island and maybe Richmond sneaking in there and being in serious contention.
Temple 77, Xavier 72 - The Owls take over sole possession of 1st in the Atlantic 10. They still must travel to Richmond and to Charlotte, but they only play Xavier once and get Dayton at home. They are in the driver's seat from here on out. In what is most likely a 2-bid league, who is going to step up between Dayton, Rhode Island, Charlotte, Xavier and Charlotte?
Conference USA is Wide Open - Memphis falls, UAB remains unbeaten, Tulsa and Marshall are still unbeaten in league play and both Houston and UTEP are good teams who aren't easy wins. For once in the last 4-5 years, this league may actually have an exciting season, conference tourney AND league champion not named the Memphis Tigers.
The Lafayette Leopards Leading the Patriot League - We know the names Bucknell, Holy Cross, Colgate and American, all have represented this solid league in the NCAA's recently. Right now, those 4 are at the bottom of the standings, and the Lafayette Leopards have started 5-0 in league play. We might have some new blood in the NCAA's this year!
The Colonial League is Awesome - Always a fun league to follow, this year it's as good as ever. George Mason, Old Dominion and Northeastern are all 7-1 in league play, and William & Mary missed their chance to join them tonight falling to VCU. The Rams are now 5-3 in the league and were the pre-season co-favorites along with George Mason. This league will be great to watch down the stretch and MIGHT be worthy of multiple NCAA bids as the bubble continues to soften.
Feel free to add more to the discussion and comment on these topics! -
SportsAndLadyKansas is up 6 on Baylor halfway through the 2nd half..Baylor's playin em tough
-
Azubuike24Baylor playing Kansas very tough.
Marshall giving West Virginia all they can handle.
N.C. State whipping up on Duke in Raleigh.
Some big story lines tonight. -
SportsAndLadytie game in Lawrence
Gettin nervous -
MulvaI'm a big Tweety Carter fan. Kansas isn't even playing poorly, Baylor is just matching them.
West Virginia has been underwhelming for a lot of this year. Too many close wins for a team with their talent. -
Azubuike24Whiteside for Marshall is a beast. The newest mock draft has him projected as the #1 pick in the 2011 draft. They have a nice team. Only down 3 are the Herd right now.
-
september63DePaul ends a 23 game conference losing streak. Knocks of Marquette 51-50. Ray Meyer just smiled in heaven!!
-
Azubuike24Was just going to post that! Big win for former UK assistant Tracy Webster
-
SportsAndLadySherron Collins was big down the stretch.
KU 71
Baylor 65 -
Azubuike24Definitely quality holds by Kansas and West Virginia against 2 teams who really should get some credit for their performances tonight. WVU wins by 7 but 5 free throws in the last 18 seconds made it seem worse than it was.
-
eersandbeers9 of the last 12 games at Charleston against Marshall have been decided by 6 points or less. So I'm not all that worried about WVU's performance tonight.
They definitely haven't been playing up to their potential though. There is no team chemistry or floor leader. I can easily see OSU getting a win in the Coliseum. -
CinciX12Tweety Carter.
I don't know why he didn't stick with Demond personally. -
Cleveland BuckIowa pushes Sparty at Breslin but couldn't pull it out. Michigan chokes one away at Wisconsin. Seeing the Weasels gag is always fun.
-
CinciX12I'd just like to say without starting a thread that Xavier has the 2nd rated SOS in the nation as of this post, you bitches should follow suit.
Now the next game it will plummet to around 50, but I just wanted to be able to brag for the week it is that high. -
MulvaGood MWC game going on right now, SDSU up 1 on BYU in the 2nd half.
Northwestern got a big win today over Illinois, and a huge win for Oklahoma State @ Kansas State. -
Azubuike24Some other notable under the radar results:
Colonial: Northeastern goes to 8-1 in the league with a big win over VCU 74-62. Old Dominion won at William & Mary, and George Mason added a win. The CAA is going to be a dogfight.
Missouri Valley: After beating UNI earlier this week, Wichita State falls at Drake. Illinois State also fell at SIU. Things still looking great for Northern Iowa to cruise.
Conference USA: Tulsa and UAB remain unbeaten in C-USA with wins, especially UAB over previously unbeaten Marshall. UTEP and Memphis remain with Marshall at 1 conference loss.
Atlantic 10: Xavier rebounds at home with a big win over Rhode Island, and the same day Dayton falls to St. Joe's. Temple, Charlotte and Richmond hold serve on the road against inferior teams.
Ivy: Harvard and Cornell will play twice (Jan. 30th at Cornell and Feb. 19th at Harvard). The only losses for both teams may come in those 2 games. They are destined to both continue to beat everyone else in the league.
Ohio Valley: Murray State (10-0) and Morehead State (8-1) are pulling away from the pack and their meeting February 25th at Morehead may determine the league winner. Murray already waxed the Eagles by 30 earlier in the year for Morehead's only conference loss.
WAC: With Louisiana Tech losing earlier in the week, New Mexico State, Nevada and Utah State are back in the conference hunt. The Bulldogs playing at Hawaii tonight and Roderick Flemings can go off so that won't be a gimme.
WCC: Elias Harris scores 22 points, wow is he impressive. Gonzaga continues to amaze and in a year I never thought possible, we have to ask, is this Mark Few's best team ever? It's becoming a legit question...
Mountain West: New Mexico and UNLV win, and hoping for BYU to stumble. Another league that's going to be really fun to watch play out. -
Azubuike24Nevada and New Mexico State lose and Louisiana Tech wins at Hawaii. So much for that WAC race!

reclegend22Notables from yesterday.
Duke whipping up on Clemson in Death Valley.
UConn completely turning things around at the half after it looked like Texas was going to win by 25+. I actually made a small amount of cash off this one. At the break, my friend bet me $15 that Texas would win by 12 or more. I took those odds, even though they seemed incredibly bad at the time. I figured since the game was in Connecticut, and the boys would be playing for their coach, that they'd at least keep it respectable. My friend's last words on this one came after Texas opened the second half with a dunk nine seconds in to advance the lead to about 10. Didn't hear from him again until he texted me, "Oops," when UConn jumped to a 15-point advantage. Lol.
Kentucky making Arkansas bend like a prostitute.
NC State's Sidney Lowe getting his clock cleaned after taking it to Duke just a few nights earlier. This isn't so much notable as it is a continuing sad story.
Florida's Chandler Parsons playing mini (regular season) Laettner and hitting his second game winning shot of the season for the Gators. Without Parsons' near full-courter to down NC State (cont'ing sad story) and his three-point dagger to knock out South Carolina last night, Florida is 12-7 and seriously on the brink of missing out on the NCAAs for the third straight time since winning its last national championship in 2007, putting Billy Donovan not only on the hot seat (even at a football school) but also on a list of biggest coaching busts in history. That would just be asinine for a coach to miss three straight tournaments after winning two straight national titles. I don't care about the circumstances, either.
WVU handling Ohio State's 8-0 start with ease and rallying for a big victory in Morgantown. -
MulvaPenn State is trying to finish choking away what would be a shocker in Madison right now.
Clinging to a 60-58 lead with 57.6 seconds left. They were up 9 around 3 minutes ago. -
MulvaWisconsin ties it, Battle misses a 3 at the buzzer, and they're going to OT.
What a choke. -
CinciX12Penn State ended up losing by 8 in OT to Wisconsin 79-71.
Still winless.
