(1) Texas at (12) Kansas State
-
reclegend22Anyone else excited for this one? Ever since the Longhorns were catapulted to the top spot in the nation, I've been scrolling up and down their schedule looking for that first "trap game." Well, this isn't necessarily a trap game, because K-State is a real good basketball team, with wins over Dayton, Xavier and at Nevada-Las Vegas, all ranked opponents at the time.
Led by Jacob Pullen (18 PPG) and Denis Clemente (13 PPG), the Miami Hurricane transfer, the Wildcats have two gunners who can absolutely torch you from distance. Clemente had one game this season where he put up 22 in one half including four or five triples. He can get hot and fast, and he did this many a time while still in the ACC. This backcourt matchup with Damion James and Avery Bradley should be interesting. I know they're often deadly together, but I think K-State's guys can keep up. Call me crazy.
I'll take K-State by two or three in a white knuckler on Big Monday. Game is at 9:00 on ESPN. -
swamisezManhattan is a madhouse. The last time I watched a game played there was the time Beasley and company beat Kansas. I am sure this atmosphere will be equally raucous.
-
reclegend22To further prove the talent that lies in K-State's backcourt, Denis Clemente went for 44 in the Wildcats' upset of Texas last season and for 30 on two other nights. As I said, he can score and score in a hurry. Pullen also went for over 20 on eight occasions for the Wildcats a season ago, and is actually outscoring Clemente so far on the season. That's a scary thought.
Should be an explosive atmosphere in Manhattan. -
Azubuike24This should be an epic battle. It's K-State's chance to really put themselves on the national radar and get into that discussion for possible Final Four teams. They aren't quite there yet, and many have been hesitant (and rightfully so) to put them in that "next tier" group with the likes of Villanova, Michigan State, Duke and Syracuse.
The next tier after that includes teams like Tennessee, West Virginia, Kansas State, Clemson, Pittsburgh and even Gonzaga as teams who could easily get into that discussion. Many of these teams have a chance to prove it this week. -
DeyDurkie5The crowd at KSU's place is unreal, definitely one of the better home atmospheres I have seen in a while
-
reclegend22Texas is in trouble. Clemente, Samuels and Co. are putting on a clinic. K-State up 36-22 with less than three minutes before half.
Going exactly as planned. So far. -
reclegend22Cold blooded answer from Avery Bradley and then the big defensive stop to force K-State into a shot clock violation. Nice resolve from Texas over the last two possessions.
-
reclegend22Annd K-State is about to present Texas with one of the bigger chokes on the year. What a piss poor second half start for K-State.
-
swamisezThis game has been a full court war. I couldn't imagine having to officiate this blood bath.
-
reclegend22The close proximity and contradiction of the above two posts (mine and ccrunner) is pretty funny when you read them back-to-back, considering they were posted a minute apart.
I agree now, though, it looks as if K-State is settling down (knocking on wood). -
reclegend22K-State opens up a 10-point lead with 2:18 to go.
In the words of Billy Packer, this one is o-v-a.
Unless K-State continues to play stupid. -
ironman02The free throw line hasn't been kind to Texas...9-20.
Down 8 with 2:18 to go...can #1 find a way to get the win? -
reclegend22If the Wildcats continue not to take care of the ball, then yes. This is pathetic.
-
ironman02James tried to do way too much there...he should've given it up.
-
ironman02Well, K-State isn't much better than the Horns from the FT line, but Texas is just turning the ball over constantly.
Looks like Kentucky will be the last one standing with a perfect record. -
reclegend22Brent: "Frank and Clemente sharing a little chuckle over there."
Bobby: "Yeah, I'm not sure this is a chuckling time."
Lol. You either love the General or you're not a fan of college basketball. -
sportswizuhrdHow soon until Brent is barred from Austin?
-
reclegend22I hope Bobby stays with ESPN for a long, long time. I enjoy listening to him so much. I really would love to meet him one day. He's by far the one person in basketball I'd most like to have a chance to sit down with and meet. He's the best there was in coaching, at any level IMO. Red's up there, obviously, as is Coach K and Dean and Rupp and Pat Riley and Wooden. But Robert Montgomery Knight is the measuring stick.
