Storming the court Michigan?? Against #15 Conn??? Really?

  • ou1980
I can see it against a top 5 team, bit against #15???? C'mon...

Michigan a 9-7 team beating a top RANKED team. A team that has been a one of the top teams in basketball the past 10 years. Yeah, I think storming the court is fine.

One of the biggest wins in the Beilein era.

Against a soon to be unranked Connecticut team. I agree, pretty lame.

Which says you've got a lot worse problems than worrying about whether it's okay to storm the court or not.

I never understand why people whine when people rush the court. It is college kids having fun, and doesn't hurt anyone. Let them have fun. I hate when people try to take the fun out of sports.

Unfortunately, I was at the only other. Michigan's thumping of Duke last December. And it was a thumping. Held Duke to something like 7-of-40 shooting from deep. And, of course, Novak and Harris were just as hot as they were today.

I have never understood why this Michigan team hasn't been more consistent over the past couple of seasons. There is a ton of talent there. Although, when you shoot as many triples as the Wolverines do, and depend on them to go in each game, you start to understand. I should know.

Storming the court should be reserved for wins by teams from non-BCS conferences against traditional powers who are having a good year.

Count me as one who has no problem when any team storms the court after any wins. Its their time, and their fun. Has no effect on the rest of us!!

Have you ever rushed the court/field? It is FUN, and is a great uniting gesture between players and fans. We did it against a UNC team that isn't as good as they have been recently, but it was UNC nonetheless, and we hadn't beaten them in 10 tries. It was also Roy's worst ACC loss in his tenure at UNC. We also rushed the court last year after beating duke 74-47.

Michigan hasn't had a whole lot to be excited about lately.
  • ytownfootball
If Verne Lundquist doesn't mention it happening I doubt we do here. It looks silly, but in the big picture it doesn't really matter.

Good win for UM and the Big10

How deep is this conference? Even the bottom tier teams have big time OOC wins. If there are a whole bunch of 9-9 teams at the end, I think pretty much all of them would deserve an NCAA bid.

Little early to say that I think, but there have been some solid wins by most if not ll in the Big 10. I think a lot will/would depend on other bubble's OOC wins, as a good deal of the Big 10's will be amongst themselves, not a bad thing just something to consider

Yep, in football, but I was talking about basketball.

I obviously went to Indiana, and I just at in awe when we rushed the court vs ILLINOIS a few years ago. It was a joke. I was a student at the time, and was embarrassed by the students who actually though it was fun to rush the court vs ILL when we are INDIANA!

Maybe my views are skewed coming from a school who is a a "traditional" power. Maybe if I went to a school who hasnt had the success it would be different. But if a school has had success on the national level for a sustained period of time (which Michigan has) I dont see why you would be SOOO excited as to storm the court. It just isnt that big of a win. You should expect to be able to beat UCONN at home this year if you are Michigan.
  • Cleveland Buck
They were supposed to be a NCAA tournament team coming this year and they have been horribly inconsistent. They finally got a big win, and I can see why they were excited, though I probably wouldn't have rushed the court over it.
  • Mr. 300
Let them celebrate. Michigan no longer carries clout on a national stage, so let them celebrate a win. They don't have anything else to celebrate.

Problem is, a lot of those young students rushing the court in Crisler today, in their body paint and pink 'UM' shirts, carrying cups of Bud Light Lime, have not a clue as to the history of Wolverine Basketball, or basketball for that matter. A lot of them are there for the social aspect of the game, and not because they are students of the game and hardcore Michigan fans who take pride in the tradition of the university and all of that. Most probably couldn't tell you two players who were on the Michigan basketball team five years ago, let alone in 1989 when the Wolverines won it all. There are also a lot who could, but even more who couldn't.

Here's another pic of a former national champion rushing the court. Can we guess as to whom this is (hint: the court color is teal:))

Indiana just stormed the court after beating Minnesota in OT.

Yeah, I literally just laughed at the TV thinking to myself, of course....

IU fans are dumb. They stormed it a few yrs ago vs Illinois and Wisky and we were ranked both games. Vs Illinois we were ranked like 12th. So stupid.

There is nothing wrong with rushing the court or field. Being a traditional power makes no difference whatsoever because if that were the argument, then OSU football fans should not have rushed the field after beating Michigan in 06 even though both are traditional powers. These are kids having fun and who cares how much they know. We rushed the field at UT after beating BG when it really didn't matter because it was a rivalry. Michigan beat a perennial college basketball power today who was ranked 15 in the country. They played well, the crowd and students were in the game the whole time and it was a great atmosphere to be in.
  • Laley23
^^^Like I said, Football is a different animal. I have no problem with rushing the field in football.

But whatever, we can agree to disagree. I just think rushing the court in basketball is kind of dumb when the win isnt even that big of a win/game.
  • KnightXC1
It is a big win for Michigan though, just like beating Duke last year was a big win. They have not been a contender for awhile but have things going in the right direction. Beating UCONN, regardless of the skid they are on is huge to the program. Beating MSU coming up in a week or so would be even bigger.
  • TBradyfan
I was not a big fan of seeing fans storming the court. In a way it makes the program look insignificant. Michigan should be a better team this year and before the season started I expected Michigan to win this game.
