cbus4lifeYea, 1-6 against the top teams in the A-10 shouldn't even you get in the NIT.
Is Gregory on the hot seat? -

I don't think Gregory is on the hot seat, but he should be. This year's team was an embarrassment.cbus4life wrote: Yea, 1-6 against the top teams in the A-10 shouldn't even you get in the NIT.

I still think we should have made a good run. I think we had the talent, but the coaching failed us. And as someone pointed out, we may not have had the heart.
Dayton has hit bottom. It will be interesting to see how we do in the A-10 tourney. -
dlazzUD should grow a pair and play WSU. A typical UD fan would say something like "LOL WRIGHT STATE WRONG SCHOOL LOL", but I still think WSU would put up a good fight.

khujoThe problem with Dayton ever since Gregory has got there is that they are a team filled with athletes, but not alot of traditional 'basketball players'. Sure it fun to see the guys in the Flight Club with their 40 inch verticals, but if you can't make a wide open jumper whats the point.
Which brings me to the other major issue, they don't have anyone that can just pull up and shoot, except Chris Johnson and even he can be streaky. The Richmond came made this really clear. Dayton was definitely more athletic causing all sorts of turnovers and making the Spiders look bad for most of the game. Yet they couldn't put them away because it's so hard for them to score. At the end of the game Richmond's players were hitting shots from all over the court, while it was a chore for UD to even get a shot off.
It's truly painful to watch them run a half cour set. It looks like a game of hot potato. Everyone just looks to pass as soon as they catch the ball and just makes a cut to the next spot on the arc or to set a pick. They never run anything to get a specific shot off. I can't remeber the last time someone curled off a pick, got a pass and just pulled up. It always looks like someone just finally decides 'oh I guess I should shoot now' and chucks something ugly up.
I'm always shocked at the end of games when you look up and somehow they have scored 70 plus points. Their points always seem to come from hustle rather than execution. They either score off a fastbreak or through put backs, but rarely from designed plays. Now maybe Gregory recognizes they don't have any pure shooters, so his offense is designed this way.
They never run the ball through the post. I'm not the biggest fan of Huelsman, but it almost seems like the whole team hates him and are trying to freeze him out. He is constantly open on the block and who ever has the ball will look at him over and over and over, then just swing it around the arc. Even if he doesn't shoot (and maybe that's why they stopped passing to him because the teams knows he will try to force something) at least get him the ball to see if the D will react.
Another thing I can never figure out is why they play that loose full court defense. They NEVER switch things up and trap. I don't know what the point is, does Gregory think just by the D running next to the opposing PG that he might dribble it off his foot?
As you can tell it's been a long and frustrating year. At least they do play good D and can rebound. -
CinciX12Look on the bright side though, in just a few days UD can hang another of those preseason A10 Championship banners.
Gotta look on the bright side of things. Like say for instance that you are in an airplane and you're flying to LA from NY. Whats that you say? The engine is on fire? You crashed and everyone died? Brian Gregory is having his way sexually with Chris Wright asking him to take him to the NBDL with him? The pilot is a UD grad? It crashed? Oh don't worry, I'm sure next year with the same plane and same pilot things will go better. No worries UD.
WE ARE PROJECTED TO HAVE 3 DAMN NCAA TEAMS!! Pull your f'ing weight you trailer park resident communists. -

FairwoodKingDayton went back on the roller coaster today. We played a good game, even though it was against a weak team. We've won 20 games against a tough schedule.
The bad news is that we will probably fall off the roller coaster later in the week. I would be delighted if we got hot and won the A-10 title, but I am not going to hold my breath. -
sherm03It's going to be tough to win the A10 title since UD drew Xavier in the first round. X has to be pissed after losing to UD up in the 937 and I'm sure are out for revenge.
I'm looking for the Muskies to run the table in the A10 Tourney, so my prediction is that UD's season ends Friday. -
Azubuike24Dayton is in better shape than Rhode Island.
I'd rather be the Flyers, with Xavier on the horizon, then possibly Richmond in the semifinals.
Rhode Island has to play St. Louis, which is a very tough game, but one that won't help their RPI or SOS if they win.
At this point in the season, you would rather have ONLY games that can help you. -
FairwoodKingDamn! The Dayton-Xavier game is not going to be televised. I wanted to watch it.
-
CinciX12Order has been restored.
I can't remember the last time Dayton ever beat X twice in a season. I don't think it has happened in 10 years. -
sherm03Smart play throwing a punch down 2 with 30 seconds to go.
Like I said...no heart.
If Xavier plays like they did the second half of the game tonight...they will win the A10 tourney and possibly go Sweet 16. How long is Redford out for? -
FairwoodKingXavier's luck finally ran out. I hope they go one and done in the NCAA.
-
sherm03
At least they'll be in the tournament. I'd rather be one and done than praying I get a spot in the NIT.FairwoodKing wrote: Xavier's luck finally ran out. I hope they go one and done in the NCAA.
Envy is a scary thing...and Dayton fans are clearly envious of Xavier and their success. -

Don't flatter yourself. Dayton couldn't care less about Xavier.sherm03 wrote:

So on the Dayton basketball thread you talked about how we lost. Did Dayton beat Richmond this year? Because X did.FairwoodKing wrote:

Gardens35..finished up just about 75 points away from a #1 seed in the NCAA Tourney.
-

We were only about a dozen points away from being a high seed in the NCAA. This just was not Dayton's year.Gardens35 wrote: ..finished up just about 75 points away from a #1 seed in the NCAA Tourney. -
FairwoodKingDayton finally woke up. We just played three good games in the NIT and are headed for NYC. I just wish we had played like this two months ago. We would probably be in the Sweet 16 in the NCAA.

CinciX12You're an idiot. Complete idiot. Do you really believe that? Dayton has 1 NCAA Tournament win in 20 years.
-
FairwoodKing
You're the idiot. Who cares what Dayton did the last 20 years? We had the players to go far. We just didn't do it.CinciX12 wrote: You're an idiot. Complete idiot. Do you really believe that? Dayton has 1 NCAA Tournament win in 20 years.
Let me remind you that we beat your Xavier team by 25 points. And our two losses to X were very close. We should have won all three. -
sherm03Should and DID are two very different things.
You SHOULD have a coach who knows how to coach in tight games. You SHOULD have a team that doesn't buckle under the pressure of a tight game and do something stupid (like throwing a punch when you're down 2 with 30 seconds left and possession). You SHOULD have players that have heart and are able to pull out those close games.
But you don't have any of those things. Xavier should have beaten Butler earlier in the year...but they didn't. They should have beaten Kansas State...but instead they shot 29% from the floor and didn't.
Dayton did not have the players or the coaching to go far at all this year. Were they a talented team? Absolutely. But the piss poor coaching and lack of heart is why Dayton is in the NIT and Xavier is in the Sweet 16 right now. -
ralphus33Sherm I agree with almost everything you said, but the problems Dayton had earlier this year has nothing to do with lack of heart. The players on the Dayton team are aggressive and full of hustle. They just lack the clutch play and intelligence to finish games.
