Sports Illustrated's Top 10 for next season

  • Leonardo
    From this week's issue:

"1. Alabama - Defending champ returns eight starters on offense, faces tougher schedule
    2. Boise State - Takes best shot at becoming first non-BCS team to play for championship
    3. Ohio State - QB Terrelle Pryor looks like Heisman contender, and defense remains stout
    4. Texas - Freshman QB Garrett Gilbert provided glimpses of things to come in title game
    5. Iowa - Led by DT Adrian Clayborn, Hawkeyes are primed for Nov. 20 visit from Buckeyes
    6. Oregon - All 11 starters are back from an offense that scored 36.1 points a game
    7. TCU - Experienced Frogs look to be test early with opener against Oregon State
    8. Georgia Tech - Count on the option remaining potent, even without RB Jonathan Dwyer
    9. Virginia Tech - Hokies favored to repeat in ACC but must travel to top challenger Miami
    10. Wisconsin - John Clay and Montee Ball will run behind one of the nation's best lines"

Oregon needs to be in the Top 5, rotate Texas out and move the Ducks in.

I am fine with BSU being ranked #2.

hmmmmmm.......3 Big Ten teams and one SEC team.

    Poll must be flawed.
  • Azubuike24
I do think the SEC will be better from 1-12 next year (this year, they probably had the top 2 teams, and then nobody else in the top 15) but a bunch of them will be in the top 10-20. I don't even think Alabama is a clear-cut #1, and many people are basically putting them there because of this year.

LSU will be strong if they can improve at QB and OL, and everyone else should be better (Georgia, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Kentucky, Auburn and South Carolina). Florida has great talent, but is replacing a TON, and will lose a few because of it. The wild cards right now are Tennessee and Ole Miss. Until Lane bolted, I would've put the Vols right there with the top 15-20 in the nation, but who knows now.

Does Iowa not play anybody until we show up on the 20th?
  • thedynasty1998
Hard to argue with that. And it looks like the Big 10 regained some respect! Boise will get tested and if they run the table I have no problem with them in the National Championship next year.

Not that I think they are deserving, but I wish Miami were top 10. It would be a really impressive schedule if OSU had 3 preseason top 10 teams on the schedule and going on the road against 2 of them.
  • jordo212000
Oregon could be dangerous next year. All 11 starters return? The Pac 10 should go to them.
  • darbypitcher22
wonder if Kiffin will try to turn Chip Kelly in for a non-existent violation at his first booster function?

    Licking too much grass.

Miami should be over Wisconsin. Wisconsin is a top 20 team, but I do not think top ten. Somewhere in the 13-17 range.
  • King Curtis
October 2nd will be the season for Boise State as they travel to Washington to play Virginia Tech.
  • september63
Well Mia and Wisc both have alot coming back. Since Wisc beat Mia I dont mind them being rated ahead of them.
  • devil1197
Wisconsin is going to be a Top 10 team next year imo.

    Ummm???

If they are favored, why is Georgia Tech ahead of them?

Other than that, this Top 10 looks good.

Also, how can they repeat in a conference that they didn't even make the conference championship game in?
  • dtdtim
That's why I bolded it. To repeat something you must do it 2 consecutive times. It's like saying Penn State won repeat Big Ten titles in 2005 & 2008.
