Its on Bucknuts, OSU has confirmed.

The 2010 season football opener between Ohio State and Marshall will be Thursday evening, Sept. 2 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Kickoff time and television plans will be announced at a later date.

“This change to a Thursday night opener offers a number of positives for Ohio State,” Ohio State associate vice-president and director of athletics Gene Smith explained. “Summer quarter classes end the week before, so there will be minimal campus impact on students, faculty and staff that day.

“Along with providing maximum national exposure for our Rose Bowl champions, this unique starting date and time allows our team and fans to escape the heat of the day, and breaks up a string of four consecutive Saturday home games to start the season.

“It will allow fans to enjoy other events throughout the Labor Day weekend. We see it as a treat for Buckeye fans and an exciting way to open the 2010 campaign.”

Specific game-day information, including parking, transportation and other logistics, will be announced at a later time.

Ohio State’s last mid-week regular season home game was in 1997, in a season-opening 24-10 win over Wyoming that was played on a Thursday evening.

    Why?

I think its a great move to get OSU and Marshall both more airtime.

No one outside of these teams fans will watch this game if its played at noon on a Saturday of opening week.

But throw it on primetime Thursday night and most college fans will be tuning in to see the Top 5 Ranked Ohio State Buckeyes take the field.

Also a longer week to prepare for Miami and more rest.

I don't like opening on a Thursday night, but then again it does give us 9 days to prep for Miami...

    Good move by OSU...
Thursday night is no longer just for the MAC's/Sunbelts of the world, plenty of big programs have played on Thursday's the past few years.
It'll help create a fun game environment, for what normally would have been a somewhat tame crowd.

Ohio State will remain undefeated on Thursdays, and you can take that to the bank.

How can you not be a fan of something that you haven't been a part of?

My gut feeling is that I don't like this. I just think the Bucks need to be on Saturday.....The Bucks have the entire offseason to prepare for JaCory(love that name) and the Canes. But I don't have a closed mind about it.

    What are you talking about?

Ohio State played Wyoming on a Thursday night back in 1997. I know, because I was there. So this isn't the first time they've played a mid-week game.

This is awesome. I'm definitely gonna take the next day off work to watch a Thursday night game at OSU. Should be a fun atmosphere.

I never thought I would say this, but I will not be dissapointed if I get the Marshall game in the alumni lottery this year! I love night games.

A nice little swtich up. I like it.

I like it as well. National television (here you go recruits, watch us in week one!) plus two extra days to prepare for the Canes. Sounds like a good financial and football move.

We Cleveland season ticket holders that have to work the next day aren't too thrilled by this move

Great move by the Buckeyes! I'm very pleased with this.
