So...who does Tennessee target?

Does this mean Bob Stoops? That would be pretty interesting.NNN wrote: There's also one rumor I've heard that's way the hell out there that involves a former Florida defensive coordinator who may be looking to make a move back to the SEC.
Whittingham is an interesting possibility also...I think that would be a pretty good hire. -

jordo212000How do you turn down Tennessee to remain at Duke? Haha. I call BS. I'd say its more likely that Tennessee told him he wasn't going to get the job, but he could say he was going to remain at Duke
-
ptangzootI heard Cutcliffe would only take the Tennessee job if he could bring his whole staff, when he was told he couldn't he turned them down.
Cutcliffe has been a good thing for Duke, glad they were able to keep him. -
swamisezTennessee is a tricky job. They don't have the history that Alabama, Florida, or even Auburn has. Yet they expect national championship contenders. The fan base is rabid, and the recruiting pool isn't as deep as the previously mentioned.
I can understand why Cut didn't make the jump. But then again I live in the triangle, and I know how the low the expectations are at Duke. -
HesstonTennessee is in a very tough spot

jordo212000They just said on ESPN that La Tech's head coach and Al Golden were candidates. (I think there may have been somebody else...)
I like Golden, I think he'd be a good hire for them -
ptangzootDerek Dooley is the man...at least that is what I heard

here is his profile on the LA tech website:

When it comes to history in the SEC, it's Tennessee, Bammer, then everyone else. Florida? Florida before 1990 was about on par with Northwestern and Kansas State.swamisez wrote: Tennessee is a tricky job. They don't have the history that Alabama, Florida, or even Auburn has. SEC recruiting isn't confined to a single state. Yes, the state of Tennessee is generally talent-poor. But every team in those states recruits from every one of those states. There isn't the same type of "I always wanted to be a xxxxxx" on the part of recruits as you see here. -
swamisezhow can you say the Tennessee program history is greater than Alabama?
There's no way
To persons born after 1980, Tennessee isn't anywhere near the program Florida is.
To kids born after 1990 (current recruits) the Tennessee name isn't associated with titles, it is associated with Peyton manning -

I don't believe I said UT was overall greater than Bammer (as much as it kills me to say it).swamisez wrote: how can you say the Tennessee program history is greater than Alabama?

And I guess I never realized that you can lop 90 years of history out when it's convenient. Florida before 1990 is one of the worst programs in college history.
And UT won a national championship in 1998 with a lot of guys who went on to the NFL. Peyton Manning may be the most prominent player with the teams of the 90s, but that's hardly the point. -
