Ohio State Preseason Rivals #2

  • dtdtim
    Early, but not surprising.

Alabama and Ohio State should be #s 1 & 2 in the preseason polls in August.

they shouldn't put this poll out until at least August. If you want to put an early one out, wait till signing day, or better yet wait till the conclusion of spring ball

ESPN had OSU at #2 as well.....

I think its pretty much a consensus that OSU will be #2. If you really take a look at the big picture, Bama should be #1 and there really aren't any teams out there that really wow you on paper (in terms of what type of hype/drama ESPN can drum up) to warrant a #2 status except for OSU.

After a competitive and exciting season this year was, next year really looks like a down year for college football when I really think about it.

^^^^^I think it might be a down year as well.

Disagree- before the '09 season, everyone knew that Florida, Bama, Texas, and Oklahoma were the top teams. With the exception of OU, those teams were still at the top when the season ended.

With the exception of Bama, and maybe Ohio State or Oregon, next year looks to be wide open. To me, that creates a little more drama than when the BCS title game almost seems pre-determined.

Boise State has 21 of 22 starters from this season returning, they will be pretty good, maybe not 3rd but pretty good.

Boise State is very deserving of a #3 ranking. I could see one making the case for a #2 ranking, and if I were a Boise fan I'd be a little upset if OSU were in front of them.

Boise State returns pretty much everyone. They'll have some non-conference chances to prove themselves, and if they run the table, I think we'll see them in the title game.

^ I don't think they will get past virginia tech. They usually have a good defense and will have a stellar running attack next year and will keep the ball out of BSUs hands. Same goes for Oregon State who I believe they also play. I agree if they win those games and win out they will be in the NC game. Ohio State will have a very tough confrence schedule going to Wisconsin and Iowa next year, it will be tough for OSU to go through the big 10 undefeated and stay ahead of BSU. Same goes for Bama it will be tough for them to get through the SEC season undefeated next year as always.

I have nothing wrong with Boise at #3, returning nearly everyone from a rather sick team this year.

I actually think ESPN is going to be all about the Buckeyes next year. They need a new lovefest now that Tebow is gone and a good Ohio State usually fits the bill.
  • jhay78
^^Don't count out Mark Ingram and the chance for him to win a 2nd Heisman- that would make for another ESPN lovefest.
  • dtdtim
Alabama doesn't bring in nearly the amount of viewers that a lovefest like Florida, OSU, or Texas will bring, though. ESPN=Ratings. Better ratings=go with Ohio State.
  • jhay78
That makes sense. I still think the majority of ESPN's viewers will be skeptical about OSU, but if the network wants to promote a lovefest, so be it.
  • Big Gain
All the better for ESPN to push a love fest for Ohio State. The haters will come out of the woodwork. A good thing for ratings. Hell, ESPN might even make Mark May slobber over Ohio State to stir the pot.

^^^LOL-never happen...but it sure is nice to see THE OSU back in the national spotlight-in a positive light!!!
