A.J. Ogilvy led Vanderbilt with 24 points and Jermaine Beal added 22 as the Commodores opened SEC play holding serve at Memorial Gym. Kenny Boynton liked the start of SEC play as he scored a game-high 28 points and his backcourt mate Erving Walker added 22, but the inside play of Ogilvy and company was too much for the Gators.
Vandy looked very good and were balanced almost the entire game. Jeff Taylor and John Jenkins contributed heavily and when going right, this is the Vanderbilt style that most are accustomed to. Florida on the other hand has to play UK on Tuesday and are in danger of starting the year 0-2 in the SEC. They need more from the inside with Macklin and Tyus, especially against Cousins, Patterson and Orton and throughout the year if they want to contend. They can't afford to get 50 points from the starting backcourt and make 13 threes in a ballgame and still lose.
