Bama/Florida, Huge Gap....then everyone else!
-
cats gone wildDo others agree? Is there any team that is their caliber right now?
This isnt no SEC chest thumping thread either. It just seems like these 2 teams are alot better then the 3rd best. -
Benny The JetDon't really think you can say that exactly...despite losing by 16, you have to remember Texas was within 3 points and had the ball with 3 minutes to go and a chance to drive and win. That turnover obviously killed their chances and they were deflated after that. Also, they had a chance to win with a true Freshman QB coming off the bench. That game with Colt McCoy could have gone a lot different. So I'd put it Bama, Florida, and Texas.....then everyone else.

vball10setAlabama and Texas,yes....Florida?? give me a break
-
rydawg5Texas without Colt still made that an interesting game.
-
lhslep134Well, as a Florida fan, I disagree with you.
Alabama whooped Florida, and did not whoop Texas. Texas held them to what, like 20 yards in the 3rd quarter?
And I wasn't impressed by how badly Florida beat Cincinnati. Cincinnati was a benefactor of playing in an awful Big East. I think TCU, Boise, OSU, Oregon, and Iowa all would have beaten Cinci, so Florida doing it doesn't prove they're better than any other team that won a BCS game.
So, if I had to vote in the final poll, it'd be
1. Alabama
2. Texas
3.Florida
4.OSU
5.Boise -
OneBuckeyeI agree LHS... Bama curbstomped Florida with their best players in the game. I don't think there is as big of a gap between Bama and Texas as people think. My top 5 are below, I think on any given day any of these five teams could beat the other, I don't see a huge gap, but these 5 teams were the best five this year IMO.
1.Bama
2.Texas
3.tOSU
4.Iowa
5.Florida -
FatHobbitI was suprised that Texas was able to make a game of it without Colt. Although I think Alabama was playing a little Tresselball in the 3rd and that helped out termendously.
But I think we can all agree that because LSU lost to a big 10 team they are reeeeeeeeally bad this year. -
DaBrowns41Florida didn't even play a team to win their BCS game. Had they played Boise or TCU, they may have actually made it a good game. Instead they played Cincinnati. Not real impressive when you really break down the matchups.
-
TiernanAre F'n kidding me?? Bama gets beat by 14 if Colt plays and FL isn't even in the conversation. Every SEC lovin' cracker in that crowd knows they stole that game last night.
-
Little DannyIn defense of Alabama, I do think Saban dialed it down a notch and played conservatively after they took a comfortable lead (except for the last minute TD). Saban knew there was no way Gilbert Gottfried or whatever his name was was going to be able to pull that game out. Bama bascially lined up in the victory formation for two quarters.
Tiernan-- "stealing the game"? How the hell did they do that? Mccoy gets hurt by a legit hit. Knocking out the other team's QB is a sign of a strength, not a sign of thievery. As I've posted in another thread, the line between you and Sleeper is narrowing with each post. -
thedynasty1998No doubt that Saban threw out the play book and was confortable just putting his defense out on the field.
There's no doubt in my mind that if Alabama had to score some points they would have. Saban knew that without McCoy Texas didn't have a chance unless Alabama made mistakes and turned the ball over. He took the air out of the ball so that wouldn't happen.
It wasn't an impressive win, but it was a win. Saban did exactly what he should have done.
With that said, I think Texas is better than Florida with McCoy. -
the_systemI find the Alabama/Florida or Alabama/Texas and a huge gap funny.
Do you realize how many teams played these teams to the end of the game? Alabama won on a blocked FG against Tennessee, were taken to the wire by VaTech, Texas (WITH colt) should have lost to Nebraska, and struggled with Oklahoma. Both 4-5 loss teams. -

What an idiotic thread.
Alabama was the best team this year, but to say there is a huge gap is a laughable. And Florida...give me a break.
I'll take Texas with Colt any day of the week, and you can take that to the bank. -

Just goes to show how much Alabama football you've watched.ccrunner609 wrote: Because McCoy and Texas win that game if he isnt hurt. Bama is to sloppy and their D isnt that good. That game might of been a 40-38 type game because McCoy would of picked them apart and Bama might of played a little harder on offense
Be educated about the topic, THEN, post. -
TiernanOK how about the terms - lucked out, extremely fortunate, unbelievable blessed event, served on a silver platter...etc, etc. And for the record I'd rather drink a beer with Sleeper than some yokel from Univ of Cincitucky...your still feelin that kick in the head aint ya?
-
FatHobbitThe game would have been a lot more interesting if Colt didn't get hurt. I thought the Texas D was doing a pretty good job at the start of the game, but then they couldn't move the ball and were losing the field position battle badly. It would have been completely different had Alabama needed to score.

Swamp FoxAlabama is, in my mind, clearly the best team in college football this season. I would still rank Texas #2 and after that I think that you could put about 4 or 5 teams down in any order you wanted and you would be right regardless. Florida, Ohio State, Boise, those pesky Hawkeyes, and a few others. When all is said and done and all of the "what ifs" have been bantered about, teams have to do it on the field. If we throw out all the excuses and just consider this on game performance, How can it be anyone but Alabama? Next year, Alabama is still going to be very good. It will take an outstanding team to dethrone them.

SpeedofsandNo giant gap. Bama escaped vs. Tenn. and Auburn. Texas escaped vs. Nebraska. Florida escaped vs. Arkansas.
Last night McCoy was out. Florida's defense had 2 starters out vs. Bama (LB A.J. Jones knee) and the Monday nite birthday party. Dunlap wasn't out by himself and it showed. Texas was ONE second away from not being conference champs.
All 3 had games where they dominated and could have beaten anybody, and they had bad games. Bama was good/lucky enough to win when they played poorly. -

Ingram was in for 4 'Bama plays during the 3rd quarter and sat out from 7:52 in the 3rd until 6:14 in the 4th (16 plays). This was after he ran for 90 yards with a TD on 13 carries in the 1st half. Having your Heisman Award winning back on the sidelines for that long, might also have something to do with Alabama only having 20 yards in the 3rd.lhslep134 wrote:

lhslep134^^ It is what it is. It wasn't Texas who kept Ingram on the sideline.
Now, do I agree with you that Alabama, when Ingram was playing, moved the ball however they wanted? Yes. But, Texas put up a lot better of a showing than Florida did. That's essentially the point I was trying to make. -

THey play 4 away games in 2010. That will help. We will see if Nick can beat JoPa......a depleted Florida and an overrated SEC they might go undefeated again. -
HereticNo.
Texas dominated the early phase of the game (two Alabama turnovers playing a huge role in that), but lost McCoy. Alabama seemed to immediately jump on the Longhorns to take the lead, but still had to hold on down the stretch. As for Florida, the way things turned out with Kelly leaving Cincinnati, they had the easiest BCS game of anyone. A blowout should have been expected.
And even if one was to say those two are the top two out there, the thought there's a "huge gap" is laughable.
