Brent Musburger
-
JU-ICEWhat I like about Brent M. is that he calls the game with the enthusiasm of a fan. Herbie on the other hand sounds like he is reading off a stack of notes he jotted down and he made a lot of mistakes last night.
-
DaBrowns41I still maintain that football would be better with no announcers.
-
krambmanHe's better than anyone else out there. If you get rid of him he'll be replaced with someone who is worse (unless they get Al Michaels and that isn't happening).
It was pretty comical thought that every time either one of them said something like "this hasn't happened all game" it then happened on the very next play. -
BCSbunk
They actually tried that once. It did not go over well. The announcers are good at background noise.DaBrowns41 wrote: I still maintain that football would be better with no announcers. -

Herbie did that in the Rose Bowl- right before the last TD pass to Posey, he says, "You know Tressel is content to just get a field goal and go up 5 points here."krambman wrote: He's better than anyone else out there. Musberger is awesome- one of the best multi-sport TV guys ever. -
darbypitcher22Musberger > Anybody Fox can throw in the booth to call a BCS game.
Herbie tries so hard to not be biased and be an OSU homer that he makes it sound like he hates OSU sometimes. Desmond and Jessie Palmer are HUGE homers for their respective schools -

Herbie keeps pretty objective considering he is on a national stage. Now, objectivity and hating are one in the same to some OSU fans, but that is another story.darbypitcher22 wrote: Herbie tries so hard to not be biased and be an OSU homer that he makes it sound like he hates OSU sometimes. Red_Skin_PrideI would like to see Gus Johnson.
I would actually like to see Chris Speilman more than anyone, but he might go crazy...like Mel Gibson crazy...if he did the Rose Bowl or a NC game that OSU was in and won or got blown out lol. -
killdeerMusberger is great...as I have said before on different threads here, he reminds me the most of Keith Jackson (the epitome of college football broadcasters), more so than any other announcer out there today. When you are flipping through the channels, when you ping on Musberger's voice, you automatically stop because you know something big is coming down the pike.
-
karen lotzGus Johnson would be great. I watched youtube videos of his calls about once a week, never gets old when he loses his mind over a big shot.
-
Benny The JetAt least it's Musburger and not Lundquist....he is an absolute homer and horrible at announcing football games. It's weird though, I actually do like listening to him do college basketball games.
-
darbypitcher22Speilman is great.... I still remember him doing a game at Wicsonsin, and there was a HUGE hit in the game and him saying, "He Bobby Bouche'd him!"
-
se-alumI like Musberger.
-
Buckeye2BMusberger is too anti-OSU and wishy washy as an announcer (for this OSU fan). I would rather listen to the paint dry than listen to that guy.

I don't get this argument and never will.Buckeye2B wrote: Musberger is too anti-OSU and wishy washy as an announcer (for this OSU fan). I would rather listen to the paint dry than listen to that guy.
Brent is about the only big time announcer who gives the Big Ten any credit, he loves Big Ten Football AND ITS TEAMS and it comes through in his Big Ten broadcasts.
The only people who view him as "anti-OSU" are people who view anyone not employed by the Dispatch Corporation as anti-OSU. -
dat dudeI like Musberger as well and have never found him to be anti-OSU to any degree.
-
Buckeye2BI won't argue that he may be pro-B10, but listen to a broadcast. I would expect some pro-OSU sentiment out of Herbstreit, but think Herbstreit actually tends to go the opposite so that he DOESN'T sound that way, but Brent just kind of meanders wherever he so chooses, and there is never any OSU love from this guy UNTIL it's late in the game and OSU has dominated it. Seriously listen to what this clown says and break it down. It's not that hard to hear.

To me, that guy is the voice of college football -
believerThere have been times in the past that Musberger most definitely showed anti-OSU and Big 10 moments to the point it annoyed me.
However, in the past few years he seems to have mellowed.
I think he did a nice job in both the Rose Bowl and NCS games.
He's putting on some age so you Musberger haters don't need to get your panties in a bunch much longer. -

He's a play by play guy.... he's not supposed to be giving love to anyone. As others have noted, he has always been kind to B10 teams, including OSU. People act as if the guy is equal to Mark May and Colin Cowherd in riling up OSU fans. I think Musburger is the one who screamed "Holy Buckeye" in the 2002 Purdue game. Does he have a saying for any other team?Buckeye2B wrote: I won't argue that he may be pro-B10, but listen to a broadcast. Jimmie CopasHe gives love to whoever is winning, biggest frontrunner ever.
-
charliehustle14Musberger is not anti-OSU, most of the time. When they deserve love, he's the first to give it to them.

Screaming Holy Buckeye wasn't an act of love, really. It was an awesome play to save a season. I thought it was very creative and a great call...because obviously, he can't say Holy shit on TV. That's one of his most famous calls, so I think it worked out for him, too. He probably would have said Holy Bearcat or Holy Irish if it was one of those teams in that situation.Little Danny wrote:

End of Line
Good point.charliehustle14 wrote: Musberger is not anti-OSU, most of the time. When they deserve love, he's the first to give it to them. -
NNNMusburger is great.
If we're talking about enthusiasm, I prefer Sean McDonough over Gus Johnson.
