Interesting take on big ten expansion
-
DaBrowns41Very interesting article. I think it'd be a HUGE upgrade if Texas moved to the Big 10, although I just don't see it happening. I wouldn't be opposed to it, and it would help the Big Ten get back to elite status.

3reppomTexas is a pipe dream of epic proportions. They have no historical ties to the Big 10 region, no rivals what so ever among current big 10 schools, and finally no financial incentive to join the Big 10. They are the most profitable athletic department in the country as is, moving to the big 10 wouldn't add a cent to their bottom line.

OldDanTuckerI would prefer Rutgers (as a cfb fan) they have a solid program annd would open up a new TV market.

LJTexas runs the Big 12 FWIW
-
3reppomyeah i read the thing and texas is a fantasy pure and simple, you can create reasoning that would result in Texas joining the Big 10. But practically its not going to happen

You really didn't read the article, did you?3reppom wrote: Texas is a pipe dream of epic proportions. "So, why on Earth would Texas want to join the Big Ten? Well, the financial implications are massive. As I stated earlier, the Big Ten receives $242 million per year in TV revenue to split evenly among its 11 members, which comes out to $22 million per year for every single school. In contrast, the Big 12 receives $78 million per year in TV revenue that is split unevenly among its 12 members based on national TV appearances. That comes out to $6.5 million per year for the average Big 12 school." -
karen lotzI didn't read the article, but as far as Texas joining...isn't there some kind of rule that in order to add a school to the Big Ten, it has to be in a state that either contains another B10 school or borders on a state that contains a B10 school??

Kinda funny you said that because the guy explains that is a mythkaren lotz wrote: I didn't read the article, but as far as Texas joining...isn't there some kind of rule that in order to add a school to the Big Ten, it has to be in a state that either contains another B10 school or borders on a state that contains a B10 school?? -

what is a myth? the bordering state thing? I remember reading that in one of the B10 expansion threads a while ago.2quik4u wrote:

BCSbunkHis argument is good and makes lots of sense. If the Big Ten went to the Big 14 They could get Texas, Nebraska and Syracuse or Missouri.
Funny that Purdue and Northwestern make more money of tv contracts than Texas does. It would be very financially intelligent to join the Big Ten. -

Yes it is a myth that they must border a state with a Big ten team.karen lotz wrote:

Cleveland BuckTexas would be great. If they want Texas though, they might as well take Nebraska and Missouri too. That conference would be just ridiculous.
-
karen lotzWhat other reason besides $$$ would there be for Texas to join the Big Ten?? Wasn't there just a thread on Texas being the richest program in the country?? Would a few extra million bucks really be worth leaving behind all of their traditions?

Traditions? They've been in the Big 12 for 14 years. They play 2 teams they even care about, Oklahoma and Texas A&M; they can easily schedule them OOC.karen lotz wrote:Would a few extra million bucks really be worth leaving behind all of their traditions?
And do you really need the answer to the question "would a few extra million bucks really be worth leaving?" It's more than a few, btw. It's about 18 million more. -
2quik4uBack in like 93' they wanted to join the big 10 anyway

Ok...how much money is it gonna cost for all of the Texas sports programs to travel to places like Pennsylvania and Michigan? For football it wouldn't be that big of a dealSportsAndLady wrote:

Really? They're gonna make 18 million dollars more with this move, and you think they'll be worried about travel expenses?karen lotz wrote:

The richest university in the country doesn't worry about travel expenses, bro. Especially when they're receiving 18 million dollars more per year. -
karen lotzwell then that means its a lock Texas will join the Big Ten
-
SportsAndLadyYeah douchebag, it's a lock Texas will join the Big Ten.
We are discussing a well written, well put together article about the possibility of texas joining the big 10, and because we think it'd be a smart choice, we therefore are saying it's a lock. -
karen lotzcool, bro. Calling me a douchebag brings a lot of discussion to the topic.
I guess sarcasm isn't well received by some. I was just saying that because something works for CONFERENCE USA, that doesn't mean its a good idea for the Big Ten or Texas. -

You said talked about Texas not being able to pay for the traveling expenses so I pointed out CUSA can pay for it.karen lotz wrote: cool, bro. Calling me a douchebag brings a lot of discussion to the topic.
