Ohio State DE Gibson leaving for NFL (AP)
-
ironman02I'm not too familiar with the changes that are supposed to be taking place regarding NFL rookie salaries. Can someone clue me in?
Could that have possibly played a role in his decision? Looks like he'll already have his degree though, so it may make sense to go ahead and leave no matter what the rookie salary status actually is.
Good luck to him. Not sure if he'll go too high in the draft, but I think he could end up having a pretty good career as a pro. -

There is a very real chance that for the 2011 season there will be some sort of rookie pay scale put in, similar to what the NBA has, so players who are marginal 1st rounders are leaving early, hoping to cash in. -

There's also a good chance that there will be no football in 2011.HighRoller74 wrote: ^^^

I agree, but I doubt it reaches that point.DaBrowns41 wrote:

Thanks. That's pretty much what I thought, but I didn't know any of the specifics.HighRoller74 wrote: ^^^

Without a collective bargaining agreement there aren't any specifics yet, so many are leaving to get in under the current rules.ironman02 wrote:

se-alumI think the agreement will be done before next season. I don't believe the NFLPA will let all those players lose their Unrestricted Free Agent statuses, and lose all that money.

thedynasty1998From what I've heard, some guys are leaving early because they are scared of there being no football in a couple years.
-
darbypitcher22we'll miss Gibson but at least Heyward is back.
Africian American studies has been offered @ OSU forever. Go back to the Cooper era and beyond -
77LegendThunder70.....I agree. Some may be hesitant on Gibson because he did play the same position at OSU like Vernon Gholston, and he is only 6'2", which is not bad, but he does not have the power to be a DE IMO, I'm thinking a 3-4 OLB. Hope he does well......

stroupsWhat will be the depth chart at DE next season?
Could Fellows get some PT? -

why does everyone think there will be no football?thedynasty1998 wrote: From what I've heard, some guys are leaving early because they are scared of there being no football in a couple years. -
77LegendNo, they scared of not getting fat contracts. Some, who never turn out!

Williams, Wells, Thomas, and Fellows will surely all get their chance at the vacated DE spot. Should be a good battle and although all unproven except for Williams, I'm excited to see these guys get PT.stroups wrote: What will be the depth chart at DE next season?

darbypitcher22If he's going to play OLB @ the next level I think they'll want him somewhere down around 250, not 260+ or whatever he is now... he's a slender dude thats got some long arms and that could really help him if they want him to play DE

jordo212000It'll be interesting to see where Gibson plays. In my mind, I'd almost think he is bound to be a OLB, but I have questions as to whether he could play in coverage (Cough: Vernon Gholston)

detectivegibblesGibson will be a great OLB for a 3-4 defense. He isn't big enough to play DE, and if he does, the only DE I can think of he might resemble is Dwight Freeney (only size wise, not talent) I think Freeney is like 270 tops? Gibson is quick enough to cover the flats as an OLB, but he wouldn't be quick enough in a 4-3.
